The UN has proved useless in many international affairs. It's corrupt, it failed in the oil for food program, it's unable to solved world crisis, etc. Not to mention the U.S. funds about 20% of the UN and if they impose a global tax, especially on Americans, what levrage will we have on them? None! Americans already pay enough taxes: Social Security tax, sales taxes, income tax, etc. If the UN actually proved to be usefull in solving world crisis like the Iranian nuclear problem, cirisis in the Middle East and the North Korean missile crisis, then I would be more supportive of this proposal but because the UN is a corrup organization, I don not support this plan have a global tax.

You sounds just like Jesse Helms. It was one of his pet peeves.
The UN is not very effective because it is bogged down in bureaucracy, and because of the way it's set up with the Security Council. The problem is that we absolutely need the UN or something better to replace it (without any interruption during the transfer.) The world is much too volatile, with too many conflicts (many of which we are promoting these days). We need a place for all countries to come together to try to work things out to stop war and help people. The US pays the most in dues, but we always seem to be late. One year Ted Turner offered to pay of $1 billion of our UN debt, but I don't remember if he ever actually did it. One reason why the UN doesn't work so well is because the powerful nations on the Security Council veto anything that is not in their self interests, even if it would be good for the world. If you have a better idea how to get things working , other than destroying the UN, I'd love to hear it.

All of you just stop panicking. The UN has no sovereignty over US citizens. Last time I checked, only your elected parliaments can pass laws affecting you. If such a tax is approved, it will be because of your congress and congress alone.

The UN is only as good as its member nations and the money they provide, and the USA has the worst record of paying its contribution. If the UN is ineffective, its because its members are ineffective. The US has enormous power in the UN, and generally gets what it wants. When it doesnt, it complains like a spoilt child.

And by the way, the UN resolution regarding North Korea's missile tests was described by Christopher Hill, (President Bush's special envoy on North Korea) as "a very strong resolution", and even though it wasnt exactly what the US wanted, they were happy with it. (Look at the interview at http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2006/s1692577.htm ).

If you'd rather these problems get solved with violence and lose even more of your young men and women to war, then get rid of the UN.

That will never fly. The UN has lost oh so much credibility in the US, there isn't a politician alive that would be stupid enough to even consider passing that tax. That would end their career in a flash. The UN will have have to be a completely new organization with all new people. Right now its a corrupt gang of criminals and they are lucky we are giving them anything at all.

Geez how is it possible for any one person to let themself fall for so much propaganda.

Let me ask you a few questions:
1. We were ok with the UN thereby went to them for approval with Iraq, not until after they did not support us were we flooded with anti-UN propaganda. What does that tell you?

2. Now that cowboy diplomacy has the entire world hating us causing non of our foreign affair efforts to be succesful, suddenly we are back on the steps of the UN. What does that tell you?

3. And this one is the most important question. Any rational person would have to agree that the United Nations is a good idea. So just because it has ran into human corruption issues that cant even be compared to US corruption btw, does that mean we throw in the towel on such a wonderful idea for the world?

PS UN sanctions on many countries have proven to be successful. IE, that is why Iraq did not have WMDs... just so you know.

I personally think that the U.S. should pull out of the UN and they have no authority to tax us. I think the UN should be moved out of the US where they have a building that they have never had to pay for and go to another country - France sounds nice. I really have no respect for the UN and would really just like to see them gone from our country.

I think that would be fine if they also taxed all countries with major gas consuption, existing theocracies, and those believed supporting /protecting terrorist cells. Most of all, I'd like to see all organized religion and "theocratic" regimes worldwide, to eat some "humble pie;" they all need to be put in their place... religious freedom is fine but there is no right for religious leaders to get imto the secular matters of this world.

I'm opposed to the UN now. If they try to tax us directly, there will be tremendous pressure to withdraw from the UN. The UN should survive about 3 days after that.

it extremely is is the cost we would choose to pay to maintain the UN and Russia off our backs on a similar time as we enforce our rules on the Balkans, Iraq, Iran, Kosovo and distinctive small international places that are retaining us from globolized markets. it extremely is rather comical that the homestead voted for the bill no longer expertise what it grew to alter into into...i assumed we had no longer straightforward working and smart representation indoors the Congress, guess i grew to alter into into incorrect.

I think Israel has the right idea by blowing the unholy crap outta them in Lebanon.

The UN can keep it's filthy hands off my country and rot in some smelly hot abyss.
