Do I win something? Cash, prizes, or whatever, if I get the most? Why should I care about how many points I have?

Nothing except give a false sense of self-worth. It's a ploy to get you to answer more question. I'm sure it's not something will actually brag about. It's really all about the endorphine rush. When someone completes a task and can check it off of a to-do list, checking that item off gives that person a little "I accomplished something" rush (it's really small but you always feel good about it). When you earn a point, or better yet get a "best answer" bonus that person feels better about themselves. They get a little endorphine rush.

It isn't really about the points. Well to some it is, but I think they missed the point :-) Right now you don't get a thing for the points and, in a way, I wish they didn't have them. All I see it doing is encouraging goofs to answer every question with - Thanks for 2pts. or some smart A** remarks just to compete for points. I don't think people who are asking a real question enjoy wading through a dozen of those to maybe find one or two real answers.

The purpose of the points on Yahoo Answer is simply addiction; take away the points and Yahoo Answers would cease to exist due to lack of users.

They are just for fun... They make your self esteem rise, especially when you get the 10 extra for a best answer!
