I think, after a real plane crash, they're all unconscious and the island represents a state of mind where they all communicate together while they are in that state. The ones who die in the programme, like Boone and Shannon, have actually woken up in the real world. The flashbacks are caused by relatives and friends talking to them in the outside world and the black fog (who should have its own IMDB page by the way) represents death trying to take them. The Others are random hospital staff doing simple jobs that have taken a sinister turn in the minds of the unconscious, for instance, Walt's kidnapping, in reality he's been taken to the pediatrics ward.

Lost is over-rated and quite frankly a pile of crap.
Some idiot just took the age-old story / adventure of someone or a group of people stuck on some island somewhere and made it into a drama series and stuff.
The ONLY good thing about it is Michelle Rodriguez (Ana-Lucia Cortez).

Hi. the others seem to be scientists involved with genetic experiments and fake facial hair. Apparently the writers of Lost know where they are going with it. I really hope it doesn't turn out to be another x files and Twin Peaks and loose their way.

Genetic experiment. The taking of children is showing a very malicious side to 'the others'. I love this show so much.

its the limbo. all characters r dead and paying for their sins. thats y the children r been taken: they r pure, with no sin. the Others r the angels, testing the faith of the character.
