If your existence is painful, you may want to review its procedures. There is obviously something wrong with its management, otherwise, there would be no pain. Some VIP once said: "The extent to which I could call my life a bad one is determined to 10% by what I experience, and to 90% by how I choose to react to it." There are many schools of thought which can shed light on new ways of experiencing life without actually making invasive changes to it. In my opinion, they are the clever ones, because the fact is that one's past cannot be changed, however badly it vexes you. What can be changed is your judgment of it. There is a guy called something... Palmer. He runs this course called the "Avatar" course. A friend of mine has done it, and I couldn't believe the transformation. Might check it out?

by understanding the source of the pain--your misperceptions. this is a premise for far eastern thought, especially esoteric buddhism, which is more depth psychology than "religion". the problem is the mind and its rather dysfunctional, until understood and "corrected", mode of "automatic" operation. once you understand how the mind works and correct its natural but misguided approach to "reality" everything improves, because your perceptions, and responses, become a bit more "enlightened". take a look at *the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom*, which is actually a great primer on esoteric buddhist thought on consciousness; and, www.sahajayoga.com for some interesting and helpful experiences.

You might as well ask how can you make existence more like existence? I'm sorry, but it is existence as much as it can be at the moment, pain is but a small piece that you think is huge.

my comment would be

to experience it

the pain you are feeling is resisting the experience of whatever that is that you are talking about

once you experience it - it will disappear into part of what is.

resistance causes pain, experience does not.
