Didn't it used to be like that a couple of hundred years ago...?
Wait... no. They put the bars on the outskirts of the city so the drunks stay there. Simply putting them there is a bit of a hassle.

And what good would that do? Eventually they'd find their way back into the city and contiune whatever they were doing to begin with that had them removed.

Rehabilitation is the key. Society shuns these people when it should embrace them as its own. These people should receive medical treatment and group therapy for alcoholism and then given a job and a chance to contribute back to society. Unfortunately, we as tax payers are currently spending money that could be used for such causes on a war (nearly two) in the middle east that is in the interest of maintaining America's addiction to imported oil. Call your senators and argue for better allocation of our resources.

Absolutely not, it's an outrageous thought. They did a whole show on this (I believe it was W-5), where the police DID in fact drive drunks to the outskirts of this particular town and one of them froze to death. This was a Canadian story!

In Spain people drink all the time, they even give their children wine with dinner. However drunks are regarded as the lowest form of life ever, they are outcasts to their own society. Therefore you rarely see a drunk.

What we should do is change our attitudes about alcohol as a society, and there would be a whole lot less drunks

No, they'd just wander back in and clutter up the streets again. Why not tell them you are going to take them to a wonderful place in the country where people like them can drink and play all day for free. Then dump 'em in the middle of nowhere and speed away.

I drink. And I get drunk. And I couldn’t give a damn about your society. So I for one don't mind being Ostracized.
