It depends on the offense. For example, there was someone on here a couple of weeks back who had a record as a sex offender, because she was caught having oral sex with her boyfriend at age 17. Certainly that should not be cause for castration. There are some offenses that are so horrible that something needs to be done. What I want to know about chemical castration is does it work? What if someone stopped taking their meds?

Um.... gee. Well, first of all there are cases of date rape, and statutory rape. Convicted sex offenders include those. I'm not justifying those - don't get me wrong. As a woman who has experienced a rape that doesn't fall into either of those categories, yet doesn't fall into holding a knife at my throat in a dark alley either - I'm not saying that rape is a justified act in any case.

However - I do thing that there are milder cases of mistakes, especially when you consider statutory rape, and that there is a thing such a REHABILITATION -

i.e. making amends with the acts one has committed in the past, and changing a lifestyle.

To say that a person would then be unable to love, have a family, and so on - is unfair. A served punishment for rape does NOT include a life sentence. Nor, unless it concerns murder as well - should that be considered as a first and absolute option.

In many states - there are convicted offender lists. For life long sentences - that should be enough.

Castration is inhumane. Even prisoners and rapists have rights. The Supreme court decided that once in a court case where a prisoner was being used as a mental health experiment - Kamowitz versus the State of Michigan. People have rights against unjust treatments, and, see the constitution as well - the punishment must fit the crime, and not be overly severe.

While it's a tempting idea it wouldn't resolve the issue. Sex crimes are about power and how a person views that power. If you castrate them they'll find alternative methods for violation. Most sexual offenders have established their self of sense through violating others and for them that's a powerful feeling. They are anti-social in temperament and most of their external interactions are to mask a much darker reality. The more successfully they are in the deception the more reward or power they reap from the act. It's an act of rage and you'd only fuel the rage with chemical castration. What needs to happen are much stricter undiscriminating laws applied evenly to sex offenders. Those who are violent and abusive should be given a lifetime sentence be it locked up or a death penalty. If we could hold them accountable most would rethink their actions because they fear consequences. They are narcissus and the only thing they understand is a consequence that affects them directly. I'm a proponent for lobotomy's and donating their organs to those in need. Not very humane I know the person receiving the vital organ is getting the short end of that deal. We need a uniform law and it needs to be enforced so they understand we will not tolerate it in our society. I want to add that statutory rape in the case of consenting minors is not of the predatory nature that other sex crimes are and therefore I believe it should be held as the exception. Depending on the circumstances.

No. That is cruel. AND Unusual. Thereby it is not constitutional. Just Lock 'em up. I mean think about it - we don't cut off people's hands just so they can't strangle another person. Castration is just sinking to an equal if not lower sense of sickness then the offender.

Sure, but rapes and so forth are about control not sex. So, who's to say they won't just use an object instead, it's happened. They need to be kept locked up or put down.

You bet, but I have learned that they do it because it is something psychological wrong with them. So you better cut out their tongue and cut off their hands as well. Because you can't cure them.
