What's funny is that on TV nowadays you can say "look at them two white boys over there" but you can't say "look at them two black boys over there". What kinda crap is that?

I'm not a fan of positive discrimination in any form. Undoubtedly black people and other ethnicities have had a grim time in the past at the hands of white racists, and it would be untrue to say such racism has been eradicated worldwide. But creating further divisions, or giving some groups extra support or help to 'make up for' the past isn't a good solution.
Here in the UK we regularly see job adverts that will only allow applications from certain ethnicities as some employers (eg local authorities) have to employ certain percentages of people from each background. So a white person who may be the best candidate for the job may not even get an interview because the employer has to take on x number of black or Asian staff. That is political correctness gone mad, and it can only help prolong racism by making us think of ourselves exclusively as black, white, asian instead of just a 'person' or an 'employee'.
Colleges that exclude certain racial types sound very distasteful. However, I don't see what's wrong with having an African American History month or celebrating a particular culture - surely it's good for everyone to learn about differences in culture and history.

Let me ask you a question. When were your ancestors enslaved and oppressed for 200+ years? The question you ask I can not answer. But I do know this. You will never know what it's like to be black in America. We have no heritage. We have no culture. We don't even have "The Mother Land" (Africa). The French come from France, the Germans come from Germany, the Chinese come from China. Where do I come from? We don't know where we come from. I here some claim Egypt, but it is impossible to tell. So many tribes, so many cultures and customs, so many countries. I will never know which one is mine. I will never know where I came from. But you will. Ask your dad or your mom or your grandparents. They will tell you all about it. My father doesn't know because his father didn't know and on and on it goes. Do you know what that feels like? To ask the question but never get an answer. Empty. There aren't enough college funds or special months or segregated colleges that can tell me where I come from. Now, with all that said, I m not bitter about it. It's just a reality. So what do you give to a people after you steel them from their land break up their family rape them, beat them, humiliate them, classify them as much less than human, lynch and burn them, call them unamerican, say they have no rights then set them free after 246 years? A college fund? A special month? What happened back then is sad. But the atrocities have continued in some parts of the country to this day. Until this country puts an end to this kind of discrimination........ I don't even like the term Africian-American. I have no connection to Africa. I'm an American! I only wish America could see that.

The prominent culture in America is celebrated on a daily basis. It permeates the figurative "air" and is a part of our daily lives. In fact, other ethnic groups accept it as common culture, as their own. How many 'other' people do you see ordering a hamburger in the drive thru or eating an apple pie? Other cultures in America (Asian, Black, Hispanic, etc.) are limited to the people of that culture's daily life, and as a sign of inclusiveness, Congress has either mandated or allowed these cultures to be recognized in a particular month.
THe UNCF and other similar organizations are non-profits. Non-profits usually get funding and are organized to help a certain demographic in need of help, and are able to receive funding (private/state/federal) by demonstrating a need based on the Census, or studies, surveys, polls, etc. Based on the proven statistics on Blacks and college enrollment and affordability, the UNCF is allowed to exist and thrive...once it becomes a moot point, no one will give them money and there will be no need for them to exist, they will have met their goals.
There's still some work to be done. Not every ethnic group has been able to fully assimilate yet. The reasons for that....well, that's another discussion...If you post a question on it, i'll answer it....

Well, it has always been pretty much that way. We all just didn't realize it for awhile. All races have some prejudice against other races. If you are specifically talking about colleges which admit only blacks... I wasn't aware of those... but, I imagine all it would take to change that would be some very brave white person who decided he/she was going to go that college, and make a legal issue out of it... like the blacks did back in the 50's & 60's.
But yes... there is a LOT of discrimination against whites.

It is an equality issue.Whites also have segregated schools. Look at your calender and you will see that whites are adequately represented. You can start a United Caucasian College Fund drive if you want. You will find that Racism is not bound by borders, color, creed,or religious origins. Let's stop teaching that stuff please. Peace.

Because HBCUs (Historical BLack Colleges/Universities) were there to provide education past high school when black kids wanted to continue to learn but were banned from the segregated white schools. If you traverse one now, you will notice white children. They don't BAN white kids, everyone's welcome at an HBCU, but just as colleges who aren't HBCUs are predominately white, HBCUs are predom. black. And HBCUs wouldn't have been invented if whites had integrated blacks into their colleges in the first place. United ***** College Fund is funded by wealthier black people to help impoverished black children who want to go to college and make something better of themselves a chance to do so. Alot of black children who are smart, but don't have the money, don't go to college just because of that one detail. UNCF gives them a chance to reach their goals. Black (not African-American) History Month was formed so that Black people in general would not forget where they came from and the struggle they had to go through to get to where they are. We lost all our African languages, culture, names, etc. to slavery so we want a time to be able to remember that as a collective group (my predominately white High School didn't do anything for Black History month if that makes you feel better...you only really do it in school if you've got a significant amount of black kids.) We feel alot of the time, nobody cares about blacks but other black people and so we try to make it a point to look after our own. There's a feeling of solidarity and brother/sisterhood we get from BHM. BHM makes us feel like we belong with each other even if nobody else wants us. And it shows that we're united in something to remember our great forefathers who paved our way, even if just for one month, February. Why didn't you say anything about March being Woman's History Month? Does that make women sexist against men because they don't have Men's History Month? I didn't think so. Both months remind us about the struggle we overcame. Yes black people can be racist against whites, just like whites can be against blacks; but these aren't examples of being racist. All groups can be racist against all groups, but is wanting to better your race that's been looked down upon for so long wrong? Did I answer your question enough?

The world is still racist, but on the opposite spectrum now. Whites are largely discriminated against. Men are largely discriminated against. It is ridiculous and you've hit on an excellent point. If they really didn't want to be racist, they wouldn't allow all this "You're black/latino/etc. so you therefore get a reward" crap.

THE ONLY REASON WE HAVE OUR OWN IS BECAUSE WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO GO INTO ANY WHITE ESTABLISHMENTS.
THE SIGNS READ:NO DOGS OR BLACKS.
WE COULDN'T ATTEND COLLEGE WITH WHITES EITHER.
AND BLACK HISTORY MONTH IS BECAUSE ALL YEAR AROUND YOU ARE ONLY TAUGHT ABOUT WHITE HISTORY.
YOU KNOW THAT.
GEORGE WASHINGTON,LINCOLN,ETC.........
BLACKS WERE NEVER TAUGHT ABOUT THEIR OWN HISTORY.
SO THAT EXPLAINS THE ***** COLLEGE FUND AND BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
JUST GO TO THE LIBRARY AND READ ABOUT HOW WE WEREN'T ALLOWED ANYWHERE.
WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO LEARN AND NOT TAUGHT OUR HISTORY.
WE ARE NOT SEGREGATING.
WE WERE SEGREGATED AGAINST.
THE SAME WITH B.E.T. AND OTHER BLACK NETWORKS.
WE HAVE THOSE BECAUSE OUR MUSIC WASN'T BEING PLAYED ON STATIONS.
DAVID BOWIE WAS ON MTV WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IN 1980 AND ASKED WHY ISN'T THERE ANY BLACK ARTIST ON HERE? AND THE MTV INTERVIEWER SAID BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID IT MAY FRIGHTEN OFF OUR WHITE VIEWERS.
SO THERE YOU GO
IT WAS BECAUSE THAT TYPE OF MINDSET THAT BLACKS HAD TO HAVE THERE OWN ESTABLISHMENTS.
JUST LIKE ASIANS,HISPANICS,INDIANS,ETC.......
OTHER MINORITIES HAVE THERE OWN THINGS BUT NO ONE QUESTIONS THEM ABOUT IT.
AND TRUST ME,WHITES STILL HAVE THEIR SECLUDED COMMUNITIES.
