depending on the type, the way to tell is to look at their overall proportion. Egyptian arabians have the most severe of the dishes in their faces and have a very feminine refined look to them. They almost look fragile. A polish arabian has a less prominant dish in his face and looks stockier. they gain quite a large amount of muscle as they mature but overall they look well proportioned. the russian arabian from what i am looking at, it looks like they have a much thicker neck and that the dish is not extremely prominant and that their manes are thicker, no doubt to adapt to the harsh Russian weather.

Egyptians are often seen as the "classic" arabian. Huckleberry Bey and *Padron were Egyptian Arabs - some think the most "snort and blow" variety - the SHOW horses. Dainty heads and necks, lots of dish to the face and space between the eyes.

Polish are the likes of *Bask - from those I've worked with Polish are the smallest in stature, but have big hearts. WWI nearly destroyed the Polish horse. Witez II and others were saved by sending them to the US.

My experience is the Russians are the tallest variety. *Muscat was a famous Russian. The Russian lines are often less dished, taller and more apt to be represented in the racing segment of the Arab world.

russian arabians- have a higher more rounded thick crest to their neck, even when theyre standing straight.

Polish arabians- have a less bent or dished look to their faces- the dish is because egyptian arabians need to 1. keep sand out of their noses and 2. breathe shallow so as not to exhaust themselves too quickly.

egyptian arabians- have the most dished faces and light bone structure. they have a shorter back and more "swanlike" neck.

The Arabian is basically an incredibly, efficient equine cooling system on legs! Every distinguishing feature of an Arabian horse is geared to disperse heat. The flaring nostrils and their high head carriage draws in huge amounts of oxygen; the fine skin, abundant veins and fat-free muscles allow the blood to cool as it fires around the body; the gaily carried tail allows air to fan through the back legs as the horse moves, and the feather-light paces would delight any student of ergonomics

Some people also tell them apart based on their breeding and where they come form. I.E. - if such and such horse is form 2 polish parents then they are polish , or if the Arabian was born and bred in Egypt and 8 generations back are all from Egypt breeding then it's and Egypt ion.
