Spring Awakening (or sometimes called Springs Awakening, pending on the translated text) is a very rare, but at the same time beautiful play. I have been looking for it desperately to see it live. I am from the Ann Arbor, MI area. I know it was recently turned into a musical, but I am not interested in that. Any help would be great!

Ok, I KNOW what you're talking about, even if other people don't....You're right: great play (by Frank Wedekind, for the other people getting points for not knowing anything), way ahead of its time--but not often performed professionally. Haven't seen a production in years, and that was a college production. Probably the best you can do in the Ann Arbor area is to see if any colleges or universities in your vicinity are thinking of producing it. Apparently the University of Michigan did produce it a few years ago, so you might call the Theatre Dept. and ask if they happened to have videotaped the performance and if so, if it would be available to watch. And maybe with the new musical version coming out in NY, other theatres will be interested in reviving the original. Good luck.

In all the years I've been in/around the theatre, I've only seen one production of this interesting show; that was in NYC several years ago. Good luck finding a production.
