I read 'l'Etranger' by Camus, in French. I thought it was a very good book about the notion of estrangement. I connected with it mostly at the end when the main character started to realize that watching the sun rise in the morning did give meaning to his life. Morning often seems like the best part of the day.
Camus was classified as an Existentialist, and his writings were very philosophical. 'L'Étranger strikes me as a relatively easy read in French for people who do not have French as their first language. It sticks to the passé composé tense.
If you liked 'The Stranger' you probably also would like the short story by Camus called 'l'Hôte' (The Host). 'l'hôte' in French means both 'host' and 'guest' at the same time.

The Stranger by Albert Camus? Love it! Great piece of existentialism.
The Cure has a song called Killing an Arab that is based on The Stranger, by the way.

A life changing book for me. Camus writes about absurdities that are still relevant in today's world. If you remember the Robert Blake murder trial; there were reporters who said that Blake must be guilty because he showed no remorse and did not act the way an innocent man should. An insight from "The Stranger".

I read "The Stranger" years ago in college. I'm not a big fan of Camus. Basically, I'm not a fan of existentiallism. It depresses me completely. Still, lots and lots and lots of people love it. It just leaves me feeling hallow and sad.
