Wow! This could take a book to analyze, but to barely skim the surface, there are some salient points of difference:
First is religion. The Spanish tended to make religion a main thrust of their colonialism, attempting to convert all the indigenous population to Catholicism. The Brits had no concerns. The Pilgrims, for instance, were religiously driven, but not by the Church of England.
Second is enslavement. The Spanish attempted to enslave the groups they encountered to work farms/plantations/mines, etc. Didn't work very well, but that's another book. The Brits did not try similar approaches. They had no qualms (at least at the time) about bringing in slaves from elsewhere to the North American Colonies, for example. But slavery as a matter of general policy never really surfaced.
Third is economics. The Spanish, quite bluntly, raped the land. Everyting of value went back to Spain. The Brits, on the other hand, tried to build business ventures that would generate trade and profit and then taxed both.
On the similar side:
First, both assumed their culture was all that mattered. Their language/mores/customs ruled. Regardless. Not surprising, really.
For the second point, both would brook no insolence from the colonies. Do what Madrid/London says, or else. The "or elses" began with the American Revolution.
That's just a super-quick surface analysis. Hope it helps.

Spanish largely plundered for their wealth, English largely traded for theirs. Of course the Spaniards did some trading and the English some plundering but not near as much as the other guy...
The Spanish were more high profile where they colonized as well. The English would have a colony, the locals would get all uppity, then a week later the British army showed up to remind everyone who was in charge. Once that was done, away they went.

The Spanish used Brute force. While the English basically killed off the Native American's with their diseases. They are similar because in the end both tried to convert their various conquests to Christianity and both wound up killing a lot of the people they conquested. It does appear that the Spanish were just more cruel in their process. They did, (both probably, actually) intermarry with many of the races they conquered. When the conquistadors (from Spain) were in the Americas they created the race that is referred to in the History books today as "mestizos".
You're lucky. I was just reading my History book for class today - and that was the subject!

The Spanish raped and murdered their victims, or forced them to follow a Christian religion. The English were less harsh, and didn't force religion on those it ruled.
