Hezbollah is a Lebanese Islamicist militant group funded and trained by Iran which controls Southern Lebanon. It was created in the early 1980s as a response to Israel's invasion of Lebanon and carried out the bombing of the Marines barracks in 1983 that killed 220 soldiers sent to keep the peace between the warring sides. Hezbollah is a staunch opponent of Israel and has been launching cross-border raids on Israel border patrols for years as a means to take prisoners that they could later exchange for large numbers of their own prisoners in Israel. On July 12th they attacked an Israeli patrol, killing 4 Israelis and taking two hostage. In the previous week Israel had been dealing with another hostage situation in which the Palestinian group Hamas had taken one of its soldiers hostage. Faced with this new attack by Hezbollah, Israel decided that its previous willingness to negotiate with and appease Hezbollah was a mistake and decided to launch an all-out war to destroy the group.

OK, people have been fighting in the middle east for thousands of years, all the way back to Biblical times. By understanding the history, you can make sense of the situation.

In 1948 the UN made Israel a sovern state in the middle east. However, Israel sits in the heart of religious importance for 3 main religions (Jud, christ, and musl.) Many groups want control of this area because it is where famous religious figures went. Nevertheless, surrounding Arab countries HATE Israel because it is free and Jewish. Hellzbella, a radical islamic facist group in Lebanon, captures 2 Israeli soliders during a border raid. Israel got pissed and wants them back. So they are currently bombing the cr^p out of Lebanon. Its just a neverending battle that will continue even after the initial violence dies down.

Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that operates in southern lebanon, the area that borders Israel. Hezbollah has been shooting rockets and all kinds of other stuff over the border and most recently captured 3 Israeli soldiers. The kidnapping was the cherry on the cake, israel said enough is enough and bombed the crap out of the areas around which the operate. The short-term goal is to annihilate them the long term has something to do with the offensive against Iran.

The first point to bear in mind is that the crisis did not truly begin with the capture of two Israeli soldiers (Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev) by Hezbollah's Operation True Promise . The kidnappings presented a serious problem for Israel, but could not, by themselves, define the geopolitical issue. That definition came when Hezbollah rockets struck Haifa, Israel's third-largest city, on July 13. There were also claims coming from Hezbollah, and confirmed by Israeli officials, that Hezbollah had missiles available that could reach Tel Aviv. Israel's population is concentrated in the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem corridor and in the Tel Aviv-Haifa corridor. In effect, Hezbollah had attained the ability to strike at the Israeli heartland. Hezbollah has been hitting the northern part of this heartland, as well as pounding Israel's northern frontier

About five years ago, Israel ended a necessary occupation of Lebanon and withdrew under the terms of peace provided that missiles along the Lebanese - Israeli border would be removed. Well the missiles are still there under the control of Hezbollah, a terrorist organization similar to Hamas, and it was the UN's charge to make sure that said missiles were removed. They are still there. Hezbollah then capture two men with the Israel navy and held them hostage. When the Lebanese government did nothing, Israel had cause to invade, get the naval men and disarm Hezbollah.

That's easy:

Individuals in Lebanon affiliated with the Islamic-extremist group Hezbollah (who have members in the Lebanese Parliament) have been firing rocket-propelled grenades into Northern Israel for quite some time now. Last month, these same extremists decided to kidnap some Israeli soldiers. Logically, Israel decided that if Hezbollah wanted war - then war they would get.

more or less there is an AL Quieda like group called the Hezzbollah ( not sure if i spell both of those correctly) that is stationing itslef in Lebanon and they are very anti-america and they are waging war on Israel and plan on trying to take on the usa - they have even attempted faking that they are hurt Israels trying to flee to america while they secretly are stasing bombs with them. They are basically crazy, but don't think that lebanon is fightin israel, although they have said that they might join hezzbollah (spell.?) if they get forced into it. thats just a rough draft as well. theres much more info on that!! hope this helps

Hezbollah crossed Israel's border with Lebanon and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and began firing missles into Israel's northern towns. Hezbollah was supposed to have been disarmed under UN resolution 1559-which was a ceas-fire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel and called for Isreal to withdraw from Lebanon and Hezbollah to be disarmed. Israel complied, Hezbollah did not, effectually making the UN obsolete in enforcement of peace. Israel took action necessary to defend its country from thugs and asassins.
