My cousin just produced a music video for this band and her son and our grandma are in it. Everyone in my family is making a huge deal out of it, so are they that popular or are is my family over reacting?

It really depends what kind of music scene you're on. In the more "mainstream" sequence of things (and no, that isn't mean to be an insult or anything) I would assume they're pretty unimportant.
With the more "alternative/indie/whatever" music scene, though, they've become pretty popular. I can think of a lot of people who'd kill to be in a Death Cab music video.
That is really neat that they was a music video at all, regardless of the band.
