No BS, no kidding. Any electronics hardware store will carry the equipment. Perhaps even Radio Shack.
I know from my old film photography days that I could purchas infrared film for my cameras. I got a roll just for fun. It WAS fun for a bit, but not exiting enough for me to get another roll. I've seen some interesting work done by other photographers.
I don't see how someone can flat tell you "no" without knowing what they are talking about.

Go to a one of those "spy stores" or security protection shops. They might offer something.
