I am 5 foot 2 inches and 13 yrs old. I may not grow, is what my doctor said, and I am 116-120 lbs. I know that body image isn't all that important, especially at this age. But a lot of my friends are really skinny, and look good in almost everything. I know that I am not overweight, but my hips are just so big. I feel insecure whenever I go shopping with my friends and I buy a size 2 (short). Lately I have been a little obsessed with calories, but I still can't stop myself from eating some form of junk food everyday. Like today, I had an ice cream. I excercise A LOT. I play softball, basketball, and volleyball. I also love to run. However, I have some fat on my stomach and on my thighs, and I just am not happy with my body. Am I alone here?! Or do I need to lay off the sweets a whole lot more. I just don't know what to do.

ahhhh, sweetheart, 5'2" 116-120lbs is perfect, your friends should be so lucky. i am 5'2 and when i was in my teens my weight was he same as yours and i flet very petite and pretty.
i was a cheerleader but wasn't buff or anything although i had a good body. it is always a good idea to eat healthy and stay away from the junk at any age though. you play alot of sports and i think you sound perfect. you still may have some "baby fat" that will come off in the next couple years as you go through puberty more. be proud of you as you are one of a kind and from experience i have found guys love petite girls. i love being 5'2"! i read in a book once, and don't ask me how the author knew, but it said the original Cleopatra(there were several), legendary and beautiful Queen of Ancient Egypt was only 5'3". i always remeber the saying, GREAT things come in small packages. how we see ourselve is how others perseve us. if we are confident and pleased with how we are it will shine through and others will sense this. it is very attractive especially to the opposite sex when a girl is confident about how she looks. (p.s. you are too young for boys yet!) how do you know that your taller skinnier friends arn't thinking, ''i wish i looked more like you"(don't know your name) don't obsess, eat healthy and stay active and you cant help but win. (some sweets for a treat now and then are okay in my book)

Don't listen to what that doctor said You are very tall for your age and I suspect that you will continue to get taller until the age of 20. I always thought I looked fat, even when I was a size 5.
When I turned 20 I decided to do something about it now that I was fully grown. I cut back on white bread and white rice by switching to whole wheat, multigrain and brown rice. Also I cut back on red meat to three times a week. I also ate four different fruits a day to quench my sweet tooth. In a month and a half I went from a size 6 to a size 2. (I am 5'1 so this was my ideal weight. )
Keep in mind that there is no perfect size for everyone. You have to take into consideration that you are still growing. So don't worry about eating sweets too much. Have a snack but look for healthier ulternatives like Reduced fat ice creams. My favorite one is Klondike Ice Cream Sandwiches 98% fat free at grocery stores.

You're not alone. But, you're also not fat or chubby in anyway. I'm 24 years old now and I'm 5 foot 2 inches and weigh between 130 - 140lbs. I could stand to loose a couple of pounds, but I'm not chubby or fat.

Some days, I love my body, and other days I which I could weigh the same you do.

Women are suppose to be curvy!! Not all girls are a size 2. Most are a size 9 and up although it might not seem like it.

Learn to love your body for what it is. You obviously take good care of it by exercising on a daily basis. Just don't overdo it. Eat junk food in moderation.

Have fun and stay healthy. That's what's important. I'm sure if you talk to your friend about it, you'll realize that even though they are skinny, they have hang ups about their bodies too. You could be in for a surprise, they might think their too skinny and want to gain weight.

The grass always seems greener on the other side, but usually isn't. Learn to love yourself the way you are. Hopefully you'll learn to do so while you're still young.

Stop worrying and have another ice cream. Seriously. At 13 you are still growing and there is no way to tell how you will eventually mature. You are exercising a lot and that is good. Don't waste your time comparing yourself to other people because you will ALWAYS lose. There is always going to be someone cuter, smarter, stronger, richer, faster and so on. Concentrate on doing the best that you can. You sound like a nice person who is perfectly normal. Be grateful for what you have as there are so many people who are really miserable and with good reason. Just smile at yourself in the mirror and go find something fun to do for the rest of the day.

13 is a very awkward age and it doesn't matter what you look like on the out side, it's whats on the inside that counts. The first thing is to love yourself, once you have self confidence your beauty will shine through. It's good to start eating healthy and there are some healthy snacks and junk food out there, it's never to early to be aware of what goes into your body. Don't get caught up in dieting it will end in disappointment. If you eat healthy and always eat healthy your weight will never be a problem. Good Luck!!

First off your body is just entering puberty. You still have your baby weight. The curves start in your mid teens about 15.I did your Body Mass Index (BMI) and you are in the normal range at 21.58.Under 25 points is good.Your friends may not have started to fill out yet.Healthy choices in food is always a plus, but never say NO to something you want every time.Moderation is the key.If you want ice cream eat a small bowl.EVERY doctor will tell you "Moderation is the Key" to weight control. You are fine and I bet your friends are looking at you and saying what you are saying about them."Wow she looks great. She is so lucky she can find clothes. She has great curves.".etc... I was the "skinny" girl and I HATED it.I didn't look feminine.I looked like a wet noodle.Guys like curves, not that you should be worrying about that juuuust yet...hehe.But be thankful that you are healthy to look as beautiful as you do....curves and all.Smile,:-) that is the "best" beauty secret.

This may sound trite, but just stop worrying about it. Yes, it's more than normal to worry about your weight, especially if you feel like your friends are thinner than you.

First, you are too young to worry about your weight. Here in a few years, your entire body will change--you'll probably get taller, you'll probably get some more curves, and you'll look so different. I know that I didn't really finish "growing up" until I was in college--seriously! I'm 24 now and look much different than I did when I was 18.

It's okay to be healthy, watch what you eat, and exercise. But don't obsess about it.

first of all,
when i was 14 my mom and my sister told me this

when your in your early teen years you still have fat on certain areas of your body, such as your midsection, your thighs, your abdomen, and your arms. this is because as you grow, your cells are constantly multiplying and making you grow taller. I have the same problem as you, I stopped growing at 13 and I'm only 5'1/2 inches!

Now, because you are female, we tend to have more fat on our bodies than men do because it is nature's way of not letting us starve if we ever become pregnant. the excess fat on our bodies is healthy and completely normal.

However, too much fat is never good and you always want to eat right; lots of fruits, veggies, calcium, and proteins, and rarely any sugar. Don't go overboard on the carbs, although your body needs carbohydrates and calories to survive.

I'm not saying you have to deprive yourself of all the "good stuff"
but an occasional burger or piece of cake is ok.

But most of all, excersise regularly and have fun!!!

Hope this helps!

no, youre not alone... i also have big hips and fat on my stomach/thighs. at 13, you shouldnt be so worried about your weight. you are definetly not overwieght, and since you excersize alot, dont beat yourself up so much everytime you eat some junk food. be a teenager, thats what we do, we eat junk food! Just keep on doing what you like to do, and dont worry when you go shopping with your friends. you aren't fat, and really have nothing to be self concious about. And about the fat on your stomach and thighs, thats NORMAL! everyone has it. So just remember that you arent the only one insecure about your wieght, most girls in their teens are.

No way, if you exercise than you are entitled to eat whatever you want. Eating too much junk food will slow your metabolism and make you feel worse about yourself though. Face it you are a unique woman who is going to have some fat on your body. Its called woman flesh and its quite natural and it attracts boys, so you want it to be there. Don't kill yourself dieting and exercising its a slippery slope to an eating disorder. I reccomend finding friends who make you feel good to be who you want to be, exercising to look as good as you can, and that your try to accept your natural body type - which means not trying to look like your 85 pound friends (skin and bones are scary to look at by the way). Different man are attracted to different body types so just enjoy your youth and your life and forget about it.
