I have two ferrets. One of them is about 2 weeks younger. But the oldest one keeps grabing the young one like a mother cat would carry her young. And he'll run off with him and hide under stuff. And all I hear is the young one screaming. What should I do? Is this normal, or is the oldest one trying to kill him? Pleases I need some one to help me out a.s.a.p. Thanks

For one thing, ferrets are very intelligent animals. Right up there with dogs and cats.
The older ferret is probably being possesive. He could also be establishing his dominance. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it gets worse. He should stop doing it after awhile. He's not trying to kill him, don't worry. Just don't let him do it too much becuase it will be stressful on the little guy.
If you haven't already, you should buy "Ferrets for Dummies" by Kim Shilling. It's the best ferret book out there and an invaluable resource! Every ferret owner should have it.

Tiffiny, I wonder if I poked you in the eyeball if you would squeak? I think you might!

It seems as if this is just dominance fighting. It can be loud and your ferret may sound like he's dying, but most likely that's all it is. Are they newly introduced to one another or has this been going on for a while? That's definitely something else to consider as well. If you need any other help, feel free to contact me!

i have a ferret and i would just like to tell you that ferrets are relatively stupid and your younger ferret may be making noises for absolutely no reason at all (if you poke mine it'll make this weird sound like it's dying), but if your older ferret is being aggressive and baring it's teeth you might want to be careful because ferrets can go into survival mode and use instincts for hunting, smaller animals usually. but chances are that your older ferret is trying to be protective of his his "property" (like how he probably does with his other toys) and doesn't understand that the other ferret is, well, a ferret, and maybe your younger ferret is claustrophobic or the older ferret is frustrated that his toy isn't cooperating, or maybe both

I don't have a for sure answer for you but are they of the opposite sex? Could they be courting one another? Most animals make horrible noises when they are trying to mate or find a mate.
