badgers carry tb, but there a protected species, a male badger could kill a cat easily, im sorrry to tell you, if its cornerd or confronted it will do its uttermost to protect its self, with whatever is in the way.
so id say id know its not easy and im personally not a cat lover, try to keep it in if you can at a night, easier said than dont i know with cats, but at least that way your know its safe.
best of luck, and i hope no harm comes to it.

In the UK this is unlikely even though Badgers are the largest native carnivores in the UK and may not be killed, nor their setts interfered with, except on licence from the UK government, except when dealing with bovine tuberculosis outbreaks. However, often the badgers gassed during tb outreaks are found to be free of the disease and recent research suggests that badgers fed a healthy diet dont transmit TB.
The RSPCA publish a useful book entitled “Problems with Badgers?”. Remember that badgers are a protected species, and even if they are causing a nuisance, you cannot do anything to cause them actual harm.
So enjoy watching them - both you and your cats!

The European badger is not going to bother your cats, neither do foxes. Search the net for night time wildlife photography and you'll see plenty of examples of cats and badgers, and cats and foxes in the same garden.
In Yellowstone Park, a mother cat protecting her kittens once saw off a black bear.
If the badger has kits, the cat will stay clear. They're not daft.
They eat different things and don't compete with each other.
And its illegal to shoot it. This is Yahoo UK. We don't shoot badgers or play with guns. Both are illegal in this country.

no - if anything the badgers will try and avoid any human contact. they certainly wont mess around with cats. I suppose the main danger is your cats attacking them (unlikley given the size of some of them) and them getting bitten. But cats are cleverer than you think so i reckon you'll be ok. i live in London - have a lot of urban foxes - and the cats are fine, they just ignore eachother

Yes they could hurt and kill your cats. Keep them inside at night. Call a local humane society and you could go down and they will give you a cage that will trap the badger and tell you how to do it.

Badgers are the nearest equivalent we have to wild pigs. They are very protective and very defensive. They have very strong nasty teeth and are scavengers and carnivors.
Cats know better than to go near them and will very quickly get to height where badgers cannot go.
If only humans would be as sensible...

Badgers are fiercely aggressive when protecting their den, otherwise they will just run off. They are herbivores so your cats safe (unless it pokes its head where its not wanted). Badgers are protected in the UK, so don't go near them.

Shoot it. At least twice.
If you can, shoot it in the eye. Bonus points for a shot in each, though.
You have to shoot it low and behind the ear first, though. It's fast and humane, and a badger is about the meanest damned thing on earth.

The badger, as with foxes, will be more frightened of your cats and will retreat or go around them !
