As soon as your rent is late, you can be served with a 3 day "pay or quit" notice. This means they want you to pay the rent in three days or move out. If you don't do either, they can file for official eviction in court. You usually have 30 days to move out after that.
Some landlords may not serve you until later, however, so it depends on your landlord. Just pay your rent or move. Your landlord doesn't owe you free housing.

I believe all of these answers are wrong. I live in Ohio and I managed apartments in California. In both of these states if you do not pay rent your landlord can give you a "3 Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit." A 30 day notice is if they want you out for other reasons. With that said, in CA, after the 3-Day notice is up the landlord has to file a civil case against you to evict you. That gives you about 2 more weeks if you don't contest it or if you lose. In Ohio, after the 3-Day notice expires the landlord can have the sherrif evict you immediately unless you file a court action to stop it. These laws vary state by state.

I think your landlord has to give you 30 days notice for eviction. Technically, they could give you notice 1 day after the rent was due, if they were butt holes. Each state may vary on that though.

Depends on the state you are in. But 30 days is the rule of thumb.
