last night i went tanning for the first time in a while. i went in for about 13 minutes. i did end up getting burned in a couple places. i woke up early this morning with horrible stomach pains, nausea, and feeling like i was going to faint. could it be from tanning or is it just a coincidence?

Technically it is possible to get sick from tanning. This is not specifically because of the tanning itself, but the reaction of your body to having massive burns all over it.

The body, when it has a lot of burns, has to produce many more chemicals than what it normally does, and in some cases, this can cause parts of your body to react badly. I would actually have a doctor check you out to make sure that you didn't damage any parts of your skin, in that your body may be attempting to repair itself.

Yes you can get sick from a tanning booth. I don't think it was a coincidence. My mother was a tanning nut and wound up looking 60 when she was 30. Her face turned to leather. Tanning also causes skin cancer. And don't think that you can cut back on tanning later in life. There appears to be a strong correspondence between tanning in youth and skin cancer. It may take years to show up, but it does with amazing prevalence. You don't need to get third degree burns to start feeling sick to your stomach and faint. All you need is a good first degree burn which you got.

more than likely tanning did not cause you to be sick. the only way you would feel that way from tanning would be if you had seriously burnt yourself to the part of 3rd degree burns but you didn't do that or else your skin would be in pain and you would know it. so i would look into maybe going to the doctor and asking him/her what else it could be. i sure hope you feel better soon!

Please do not use a tanning bed, it is very bad for the skin, it makes you look like a wrinkled prune and it can give you a real bad kinda skin cancer. It happened to a friend, its very good to avoid. Please do avoid tanning beds.
