Which war do you mean?

The War of the Ring lasted about a year, Third Age 3018 to 3019.

The War of the Last Alliance, where Sauron lost the Ring, lasted about 12 years, from Second Age 3429 to 3441.

The War of the Dwarves and Orcs lasted from Third Age 2790 to 2799.

Which war? Well......... the First Age ended when mortals came about... I think... and the Third Age started when the mortals left Numenor??? I think.... and then when the ring was destroyed the Fourth age started... I think.....

I would have to go innto all my LOTR/Tolkien books to find the exact dates and I don't know which ones have them.

You should read "the Silmarilion" also by J.R.R Tolkien.
It is the "pre-history" story to the Hobbit and LOTR.

ALTHOUGH---I should warn you--it is hard to read--extremely detailed and difficult to follow...but well worth the struggle!
