For starters, Hello and how are you? As far as if I met you on the street: I personally don't smile because I am ashamed of the condition my teeth are in. However, I do nod my head with a grin on my face. I am sometimes greeted with a nod of the head and other times ignored. The world is too fast paced for people to give a damn anymore. What happened to the days when people waved a thank you when you let them pull out in front of you or take a turn before you? I don't expect complete strangers to offer a "hello" on the street as they pass anymore. Too many people are frightened they will offend someone or greet a mass murderer. I agree that we need to acknowledge one another, but I understand why people are sometimes uncomfortable with the people around them. It is a different world these days, with snipers shooting from over-passes and murderers going loose and on killing sprees. It would be nice to go back to the time when saying "hello" to a person as you pass them is normal, rather than an oddity, but it won't happen. Just keep offering your "hello" and smile and resign yourself to the fact that you probably won't get the same in return. That is the world these days. Sucks, doesn't it?!

HELLO or HOWDY as we say here! Really in our small town you feel awkard or rude if you don't say hi or how are you in passing by someone on the sidewalk or if they arae outside their homes and you walk by. Everyone waves in the car, mostly with their pointing finger while they hold onto the steering wheel. So many ppl are moving in now because we are about 60 miles from a very large city and it is spreading and we will be doubled in size in a couple of years or so! Those ppl are not as friendly and look at you like your crazy or going to try something. It is sad, I agree! I just wish we wouldn't grow too big. Our town slogan is the biggest little town in_ _ Texas! It will be a big town soon.

I always smile, and, if the peson seems friendly, I'll give a little hello.
Sadly, though, the number that smile back, or offer up a friendly look are few and far-between.
They are out there, though. I don't let the negative, busy, unhappy people deter me - I know that, when I'm having a bad day, someone just smiling and saying hello can be an uplifting thing.

I live in Texas and while some people are rude here, many of us still say hi and are friendly and hold the door for each other but I recently went to Miami, Florida and I was surprised by how rude most people were I was bumped into and stepped on and no one apologized. I even saw that when people were about to cross the street the cars wouldn't even let them cross. Even the employees at the grocery stores weren't friendly. They weren't even willing to help customers. I asked them if I could use the restroom and they said they didn't have one then I asked another employee and he opened it for me!

I think it depends where you are. Like if you are in a suburb and you smile at someone they will probably smile and say hi. But if you are in the city, that is a totally different story. There are way too many people and most of the time people are thinking of all the things they need to do, so they don't notice people around them may be trying to smile and say hi to them.

it's very true to find people now a days who take time out of there busy schedule to say hi or even get a smile from them, what i think happens is people have every intention on having a nice day until someone pisses them off, whether they cut you off in traffic, or bump into you and that pretty much starts a chain reaction, because of one person doing such a thing pisses you off then you without realizing it does it to the next person and so on. it would be nice to be able to get up in the morning and not have to get pist off before the day is done, but unfortunately we live in a society that cannot do this and it is truly sad that is how we live our lives, that is all i have to say about that. P.S. HELLO ;)

Well, hello there Quiet Times! I know how you feel. When I'm out walking I say hello to people I pass. Sometimes people act like you're a wierdo for even speaking to them. Have a great day.

There are walking trails near my house, that I use on a regular basis. Whenever I pass someone, I smile and say "Hello". It's shocking how many people don't reply. I don't know if it's because I'm young, and they think I'm a hooligan or something, but I find it rude and insulting.

Hello, my friend.
I am trying to keep the tradition alive in my own little corner of the world. Not only do I say hello to people as I pass them, I wave to people in passing cars, hold doors open for others, and even tip my hat to ladies as I pass (when I am wearing one). Sometimes I am ignored, but sometimes people tell me I have made their day. Either way, I always feel good about it. May God bless and keep you, my friend.

Well I personaly dont say Hello to anyone because I would rather mind my own business. There are too many weirdos in this world and Im not trying to get to know them. Unfortunatly alot of rude people have rubbed off on me and I just go on my way and dont make eye contact. Nothing against anyone I just mind my own and go on my merry way.
