I am 18 weeks pregnant ( 4 1/2 months) and I fell down the stairs in my house? I called my midwife she said go to the ER to be on the safe side. It was almost time for me to go to work and I was'nt in pain so I went to work. Now I am at work my lower back is hurting, but I don't want to sit in the ER for about 4-5 hours before they can see me. My next DR. appointment is Friday morning. HELLLPP what should I do? I already told my boss he was ok with.

You baby is in the safest environment she/he will ever know. Unless you fell hard on your abdomen over a rail or low wall to the point that your abdomen was pinched by the impact, your baby probably sufferend no distress at all.

If you are ok, then you are probably ok. [I know, not earth-shattering, but sometimes we worry ourselves into more pain than we have a right to.]

You did not mention how many stairs, how hard you fell, etc. Did you land on your bum? That may be why you are hurting in your lower back.

Remember - no pain relievers that could cross the placenta to the baby! And if you need pain relief, do it under your physician's guidance.

Your body is designed to protect your unborn baby. But why would you listen to a bunch of strangers on the internet when your midwife, who has experience with such things, told you to go to the ER? You should be checked out to make sure that you and your baby are OK.

Yes definately go to the hospital. The pain in your back is probably just bruising but you need to get your baby checked. I know someone who fell and didn't go to the doctor at all, she carried full term but had problems during delivery. The baby did unforunately die. Is your baby kicking? This is a good sign its ok but you should never the less go and get it checked. Sorry if this answer alarms you but I don't want you to experience things I have xx

It would be to your best interest and your baby's interest to go to the ER...you would rather sit and wait 4-5 hours then to wait till Friday to see your regular doctor. Common sense says that much.
