From the movie the Godfather:

When Hollywood producer Jack Woltz refuses to cast Johnny Fontane in his new war film, Don Corleone sends Tom Hagen suggest he reconsider. Woltz, however, bitter over a girl that Johnny stole from him, stubbornly refuses.

Woltz: ...just tell him he should ask me anything else. But this is one favor I can't give him.

Hagen: He never asks a second favor when he's been refused the first, understood?

Woltz: You don't understand. Johnny Fontane never gets that movie. That part is perfect for him. It'll make him a big star. And I'm gonna run him out of the business...

The next morning, Woltz wakes to find himself sleeping next to the severed head of his favorite prized horse, a $600,000 stud named Khartoum. The big-shot Hollywood producer begins screaming hysterically.

It might have something to do with The Godfather movie, because that's what happened to someone's prized horse. He woke up with the head in bed next to him. A bit like the term bunny boiler, it came from the movie Fatal Attraction when she cooked the guy's rabbit.

In the novel, "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo (forgive me if I misspell the name) Don Corleone's nephew wanted a part in a film and appealed to an important Hollywood producer. The producer categorically refused to put him in the movie, so the Corleone family "made an offer he couldn't refuse." This particular producer was fond of race horses and showed Tom Hagan, the Godfather's attorney, adopted son and counselor this beautiful champion stallion he owned. After awakening from a peaceful night's sleep he woke up feeling something sticky, turned the covers down and there was the stallion's head in his bed. I guess it is a very abrasive reply to someone who did not cooperate.

Well that's the only wig that I could afford on my meager salary and I had a rather unfortunate incident with the dog clippers, so no, it really isn't something I'm fond of doing, but it is pretty isn't it?

It's a warning from the local Gansta's that you've pissed them off/betrayed them and that you will die horribly very soon. Its in the 'Godfather' films!

It is from the movie "The Godfather" and in the movie it was a warning to a person. It was his horse they cut the head off of. People have taken that bit part and made it a urban saying meaning . I am going to kill you.
