It isn't a lack of courage on your part. It's the depression eating away at you.

Knowing something intellectually, like
"I'm pretty sure I have some kind of depression"
and
"Logically, a doctor could help me"

is not the same as the deep feelings engendered by clinical depression. No matter how much we "know" a thing, the demon depression is still entrenched.

Can you bring yourself to talk to someone you know offline about this struggle? Sometimes it's necessary to ask someone else to help us.

I can't tell you how many times I wouldn't have gotten help if it weren't for my partner.

Please - speak to someone?

It's sometimes the hardest thing in the world to go and get help for depression. It feels like a huge social stigma. The majority of people who have depression know damn well what they have, just they can't bring themsleves to go see the doc.
So how can a persuade u to go? Well, there are so many people out there who have depression and u know nothing about it you would not believe. Secondly, each doctor has seen many cases just like yours, they know what to do and wont be thinking he's a right nutcase, they'll just be sympathetic and listen. The process of actually telling someone how you're feeling makes you feel so much better in itself, and knowing that you have started the ball rolling in getting it sorted is fantastic.
You owe it to yourself for getting this sorted, you don't deserve to be wallowing in all this misery. You have to make the first step to starting the reat of our life, do it for yourself. Go and get help.

You can do it.

I know when I get depressed I don't want to leave the house or do anything. Suggest you call a friend you can trust and ask them to take you to the doctor . You need someone to look after you until you get to feeling better.

I am having the same problem.

I know the doctor will put me on an antidepressant - but it'll probably take 6 weeks to get into my system and who knows if I'll be around that long?
