I hear that something like 15% of the people have about 80 - 85% of the money in the US. Does that sound accurate?

Well, I'd honestly rather pay less and get my refund and have wealthy people pay almost a third of what they earn every year, like it is now. If I were rich, I'd definitely go for a flat tax, I'd get a huge break!

We do have one of the most shameful gaps between rich and poor of any nation. However, a 10% tax wouldn't pay for everything - it would create much less revenue then we have today. If we stopped starting unnecessary wars of aggression and taxed corporations that not only get away with paying virtually nothing in taxes but our often subsidized by the government, we would greatly help our budget. It's important to tax wealthier people had higher tax rates because they can afford to give more (10% of a salary of $18,000 means a great deal more to the living conditions of a family than 10% of a salary of $1,800,000).

I think that making everyone pay their fare share would be a LOT better. 10% would be wonderful. We pay closer to 35% and we're far from rich. Some people pay nothing. Some people pay 50% or more (the "rich"). I wish we'd go to the flat tax - where everyone just pays the same percentage. That's the only way it will every be fair.

A flat tax for everyone would be great, and would solve a lot of problems. But, it would have to be higher than 10%; I'd say 15% is more realistic, with obvious exceptions for those below poverty income levels.

there ARE no tax loopholes, you idiot. reagan got rid of all of them in 1986. it was called tefra. and ofcourse 15% have 90% of the money. thats a natural dispesrion. old people have most of the money, because they've been here longer. young people have nothing yet.

and chrissy, you stupid b i t c h, the poor don't pay income taxes, so we aren't stealing from the poor to pay the rich.

10%? We wouldn't have a war on Iraq if we gave only 10% across the board, not enough money to spend
