Advertising gets us with "it's better than the last one", but I'm sure that the last one was pretty good. "Eat less and live 40% longer" says the Express, but I'm pretty happy with 75 years.

like 9 out of ten cats / seven out of nine dogs etc..has written under the advert in small print - (that expressed a preference)

i like the adverts that claim their washing powder cleans stains better than their last one, even though they said that was brilliant. They must think we have really short memories.
