French (ethnically) people, are charming, seductively arrogant with a wonderful language and steeped in history. Style abounds etc. However, France is in decline. Economically it is bankrupt, the social left wing model has wrecked the fabric of the country. The country is overrun with muslims, algerians etc etc. The French birth rate is in severe decline by comparison with muslims. Within 30 years 40% of the population will be muslim. France will soon bear little similarity to the romantic memories of the 1950's. There is also the paradox of arrogance and cowardice. How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris......................................................................................................................?........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................We don't know...it's never been tried!.................................................................................................................

I have been to France many times, mostly Paris. I love Paris. I always promise myself I'll go see other parts of the country, but I end up spending all my time in Paris. The history, the literature, the art...fantastic.
I have, however, been treated poorly there on many occasions, because I am American. Europeans in general, but Frenchmen moreso, are so quick to judge Americans. It is insulting to me as an individual, to have French people say things like, "I'm surprised you know that" or "you're very smart for an American". In comparison, I get very little of that in Italy, Spain, or the U.K. This is pure idiocy.
Newsflash for the French: There are stupid people in all countries. Not just the United States. Annoying things about being in France: Americans trying to prove that they're different from other Americans and Canadians who constatntly proclaim their hatred for stupid Americans.
Aside from that, I have met some really cool people there.
Oh, yeah...their films are great and they have the best national anthem, bar none!

I have been to France several times and loved it, and never had any problems with the people while I was there. I know that almost everyone here in the U.S. has something negative to say about France or the French. The funny thing to me is that not one of the people I know that thinks like that has been to France or met a real French person. They get fed all of their thoughts and opinions from TV and radio and have no real life experience with which to base any of their statements on.

Every culture can be unfairly generalized as obnoxious or rude, and I have experienced nasty people everywhere I've traveled, including France.
During my last trip to France, a Parisian woman told me "I have nothing against you as an American. It is your administration I dislike." She was firm and we argued for several minutes, then parted amicably with a wave and an "au revoir."
I do have some criticisms of your country's politics. I fear that France has lost some of the historical perspective that, in past centuries, has made your nation a champion for democracy and social justice. But my debate with the woman in Paris also reminded me why I also have great respect for the French.
Your people, I believe, have the ability to look at life beyond politics. We were both firm in our beliefs but, as long as we remained open to discussion, there was room for respect.
It is important for both sides to remember that France is the United States' oldest ally. Like any old friends, disputes arise and feelings are hurt, but the mutual respect is sustained.
I admire the French's outlook on life. Much like the Japanese, they have a genetic disposition towards quality of life, food and art. But unlike the Japanese and we Americans, the French dedicate time to enjoy these things.
Ignorance exists everywhere (just look at this board). I choose to be firm in my beliefs and respectful of others. In my experience with your country, the people of France have the same attitude.

I like the French, Americans too often forget that if it wasn't for France we wouldn't be here now! I think that the American people have turned there backs on your country, and that's a shame, All because your country tried to tell us before we invaded Iraq that it was a mistake, But of course when you did the American propaganda machine kicked in over drive. I'm sorry my country turned its back on yours, You have always been one of our closest allies and hopefully soon my country will get over itself and we can reestablish out ties.

I hope you get to be more open to the use of English as the universal means of communication, although the French language is also a beautiful one. As with the people, I haven`t met one yet, and would love to!
