Owning animals needs to be seen as a priveledge and not a right. It's a life that a person is agreeing to take responsibility for. I think there need to be more severe legal consequences to people that neglect, mistreat, or abandon animals. A person that does those things obviously does not care about a moral or ethical treatment of another life. The only way to punish someone like that is to impose some severe financial penalties or take away some liberties. Maybe losing a couple grand or some jailtime might get the point across that what they are doing is wrong.

People who make a practice of causing harm to animals are worse than the animal(s) that they are hurting in my opinion. Not only that, that same person is likely harming their children, spouse or other loved ones. Think about it, every single serial killer that is documented,at least in this country and in the last couple of decades is quoted as saying that they at one time or anotherPRIOR to actually acting out their violence on a human target harmed an animal in one degree or another.

Thank God that the people who are leaving the animals in your care are at least doing that much. My concern is what the hell are they doing in their homes to their families? What sick twisted issues are they eventually escalating toward, if they haven't already acted on those impulses?

I may sound like an alarmist, but as a Care Provider and Advocate, I feel obligated to share this information with anyone who will listen. It's the small detail from the person who beat their dog, then thier child then shows up to school with bruises, then the wife ends up in the hospital near death because she didn't make the right meal, then the family who ends up on the front page of the local paper, murdered by a mom or dad for whatever reason. Trust me when I tell you, the indicators are there, we as a global community have a responsibility to be involved.

Yes, that abused animal is generally the tip of a larger iceberg. It is a life worth saving for certain. Just stop and think for a moment about the other lives that MAY BE CONNECTED TO IT WHO MAY IN JUST AS MUCH TROUBLE!!

How is that hurting them, it may be neglecting them, but how are they hurting? The pets are better off without that type of owner, the pet may wander into a yard of a caring person who will cherish them. or get hit by a car which is a little more violent than being put to sleep but with the same results. if it's a dog, it stands a good chance of being someones dinner, which will complete the cycle of life. don't get me wrong, I have sympathy for the plight of abandoned pets, but there are humans that get far worse treatment and society is de-sensitized to their sufferage. It is a good thing to stand up for something that can't defend itself . but due to the availability of hamburgers and chicken mcnuggets, I fear I too am de - sensitized to the plight of animals.

I think they are total cowards and they r just plain out and out scum! If they can drop a cat off in your yard- why not just at the ASPCA?????? Some just dont give a damn! But for those that physically hurt- or starve an animal to death- line em up and let the firing squad have them!

Somewhere inside, they would hurt people too if they weren't weak and afraid and cowardly. The way a man or woman treats animals is often a good sign of how they would treat a lover or a child.

I think they dont really deserve to enjoy life if they have to destroy so many other things lives. They seem very selfish and uncaring. And I wish someone would just throw them in prison.

My pets are part of my family,
I cannot imagine why anyone would hurt an animal.

Those that do,
should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I bet none of the people who answered this eat meat. Or else they would realize animals have to be hurt for us to enjoy meat.

They need to kill themselves. What kind of lame weakling hurts a defenseless animal.
