should a 13 yr old have a cell phone.....?

ok what do you peopls think,should a 13 yr old going on 14 have a cell phone if in most of her classes she has 75's and 80's well very little 80's .why or why not?

i know i know but what my parents don't under stand is that i realy need it not just to call my friends cuz i realy don't have any but to contact with them.cuz it's sooo imbarassing to have to ask people 4 threre cell phone just cuz i don't have one and my parents just can't ....well i dion't know.

i think they should but thats because im 13 and i want a cell phone.....but my parents say "once you get a job and can pay for and have your drivers liences you can get a cell phone."

I think you are right. There has to be some limits. She seems a little immature to be able to handle the responsibility of a cell phone. Let her know if she doesn't start obeying the cell phone rules, no phone after 930, no texting while eating dinner,e tc. , you will take the phone away for a day. Every time that she doesn't obey the rules take it away for a day longer. So first offense one day, next offense two daysand so on. But don't give in do what you say you will do or she will walk all over you. If that doesn't work. Tell her you will take it away permanently and then do it if she doesn't obey.

OK.... First question does she need it? for example she is on a team or involved in activities where she needs rides and has to call home?
Second question, how will she pay for it, kids can make their cell phone quite large and it is something that has to be looked into. Would she get pay as you go plan. ?
Why does she need a phone, just because her b.f. has one doesn't mean she needs one. Can the parent afford an extra bill?
Would she take care of it is another q that needs answered.
These are the questions that need raised.

Personally my daughter didn't get a cell phone until college when she could pay for it.

i would say no, 13 year old dont need any cell phones BUT there are cell phones, where u can save 3-5 numbers, so they can only call those numbers! i think thats a pretty good idea! so if the kid gets lost it can call the parents or aunt or grandma or whom ever! so i would get my kid something like this! but not a cellphone to call friends! thats just not necassary!

Cell phones are given by the parents to their child for easy contacting... but most of the time the child will not use the cell phone to call their parents or not answer calls from parents... so why the need? there's pay phone.

a cell phone that is just used for basic calls; like home and parents work numbers. not for leisure though, getting grades like that and then getting a cell phone on top of that wouldn't be good, it may cause her grades to drop more.

Absolutely not. I don't even think *adults* should have cell phones.....and *definitely* not children under the age of 18. They should be paying attention to important things like school instead of their semi-literate friends.

well, it depends, how often is she without her parents or a responsible adult? does she play sports, any after school things that she does that she may need to contact home for? i am 14 and i have a phone, and i had one at 13, it all depends on the circumstances.
