"I am shocked and deeply distressed by the apparently deliberate targeting by Israeli Defence Forces of a UN observer post in southern Lebanon"
"The co-ordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long established and clearly marked UN post ... occurred despite personal assurances given to me by (Israeli) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that UN positions would be spared Israeli fire."

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan 7/25/06

"But you need to look at the events of yesterday,” he urged. “The shelling of the UN position, which is long-established and clearly marked, started in the morning and went on till after 7:00 p.m., when we lost contact.”

“You can imagine the anguish of the soldiers and the men and women – unarmed military observers – who were down there in the service of peace,” he said, stressing that the peacekeepers were in frequent touch with the Israeli army, pleading with them to avoid striking their location"
Kofi Annan, 7/26/06, Rome

If only the jew media reported all of the terrorist actions against even the Jewnited States , that Occupied Palestine has engaged in over the years. The jewish media in Europe allows them to report the truth about Israel a bit more so some Jews in the military in Occupied Palestine do not like those nations or the UN. The UN has nations from all over the world that have media and governments that are not like White founded ZOG nations. Thus the UN has come down hard on Occupied Palestine many times. There are numerous UN resolutions that Occupied Palestine (Israel) refuses to comply with. Some of them are decade old. The Jew. S. A. protects Occupied Palestine from the UN and the rest of the world. So the jews love to strike back at the UN and other nations that have not been 100% behind them. They also just love to kill their enemies and they consider all people to be their enemies. They get a kick out of how much they can get away with and how stupid Americans are. Ten years ago they bombed a UN building killing 100. Remeber the USS Liberty? The list of terrorist actions by them even against White people is endless. Their soldiers love to get pictures posing with dead civillians. They are a sick perverted people but a people that are bold and willing to do whatever it takes to survive. They are masters of deceit. they are a parasite people that need productive people to leech from yet they always work to destroy their host. Even the Jewnited States that is their crown jewell of power - they work to destroy it. The same was the case with Germany or ancient Egypt or the Roman Empire.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was a pretty stupid error for the so called, best trained military in the world. Heh...

Or, crooked soldiers out of control.

Basically, while I can conceive of it being deliberate, I don't really think that that is the most likely reason. They've hit all kinds of crap, civilians, and CRS. Someone just royally screwed up this time, and will probably have something bad happen...

Isn't that the most likely reason?

If you're not convinced:

Ok, so you're assuming that the secretary or Israeli official contacted actually knew how to respond and understood everything. The gears moved and then a decision followed through on to destroy the UN forces.

But why?

International Humiliation
A need to discharge ammunition
To weaken the world veiw of Israels plight
Because they actually precieved a threat
Desire to court marshal someone and possibly fire and official

Um, I don't think so. Really.

How many times are you gonna post this anyway?

Was it allright to try to destroy Israel? Israel tried in every way possible to live peacefully with its neighbors. They are surrounded on all sides with countries that harbor terrorists. From the day Israel was established, the attacks began. The Israelis even bulldozed their own settlements and gave the land to the Arabs, but nothing short of the annihilation of Israel would satisfy them. The suicide bombers got on Israeli school buses and went into the market places. Missiles were aimed at resorts and cities and hundreds more were poised on the border. Israel even built a wall but it didn't keep the terrorists out. When 2 soldiers were kidnapped, Israel had enough. The did what the US should be doing; they went after the terrorist's headquarters and training grounds. These are the same terrorists that attacked us on 9/11 and have attacked Britain, India and other countries. Israel is the only ally of the US in the Middle East and the only democracy in the region. They have a right to defend themselves.

You (and maybe Kofi) need to look up the definition of the word "murder". In every legal system in the world, it requires a degree of intention. Mr. Annan has once again run his mouth irresponsibly, saying basically, "We need to investigate to find out what happened, and what happened is x,y,z." Public officials generally do not announce "the results" of an investigation at the same time they announce the need for the investigation, do they? A DA who does that can lose his license to practice law. Kofi Annan once again presumed his conclusion, like he has done often before in his unimpressive tenure. (For example, he unequivocally declared the war in Iraq "illegal" although it certainly was nothing of the sort.) He had and has no proof for his statement, but he made it anyway. This nonsense from the UNSG tends to give gullible people like you the impression that an open question has already been settled before it really has, which is basically just dishonest on a personal level and grossly irresponsible on a professional one. You believed him because you wanted to, not because there is any hard evidence of the belief, because the investigation is still barely underway. That is a very bad mental habit on your part.

This is collateral damage.
Where was Kofi Annan when innocent Israeli civilians were killed?
Israel withdrew from Lebanon and any attack it is making now has one objective alone: TO STOP TERRORISTS FROM ATTACKING ISRAELI CIVILIANS.
Israel has already expressed its deepest regret on the ACCIDENTAL killing of UN personal. However, they knew they were in a war-zone and did not evacuate.
BTW when 3 Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and killed in 2000 they attack was made by the Hezbollah disguised as UN troops, so a case of mistaken Identity could have easily been made this time.
In conclusion: "IT'S Hezbollah's FAULT"

uh actually israel is part of the UN and they hold a seat in the GA. I think Israel forces were deliberately targeting the UN post so they could do whatever they want in that area without getting caught.

And you expect exemplary behavior from a nation that in 1972 attacked a clearly marked US communication vessel?

"Collateral Damage". That will be the epitaph on the tombstones of most of those killed in this war.
