Go to start then programs right click on the application you want and chose shortcut send to desktop.When you go back to your desktop you should see the icon there. For eample if you want to start word from your desktop click on office applications chose word right click and then send to desktop. Practice it, it will not harm you can always delete the icons if you end up with too many of the same.

If u need to add a programme icon to your desktop, right-click the mouse, select "send to" and then "desktop" (create shortcut) and voila the icon appears on the desktop.

right click on the program (file, etc...) you would like to add as an icon and in the gray box highlight "send to" then click 'desktop create shortcut'

It's easy go to properties click on icons or change icons.Then browse to select the reqd. icon . To get different icons there are various sites offering u icons of different images n animations.So, u can download them easily from these sites.
