"But you need to look at the events of yesterday,” he urged. “The shelling of the UN position, which is long-established and clearly marked, started in the morning and went on till after 7:00 p.m., when we lost contact.”
“You can imagine the anguish of the soldiers and the men and women – unarmed military observers – who were down there in the service of peace,” he said, stressing that the peacekeepers were in frequent touch with the Israeli army, pleading with them to avoid striking their location"

"I am shocked and deeply distressed by the apparently deliberate targeting by Israeli Defence Forces of a UN observer post in southern Lebanon"
"The co-ordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long established and clearly marked UN post ... occurred despite personal assurances given to me by (Israeli) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that UN positions would be spared Israeli fire."

When the dig up the bodies do not be surprised if Hezbollah members were right there with the UN guys. Could be that outpost was used as a forward observation post by Hezbollah. The UN permitted them to do whatever they wanted in southern Lebanon which was directly against th e agreements made in 2000 to keep the south neutral. Go Israel and knock out some more of those bums that take money for nothing. What nationality were they?? Probably some Jew hating country that Kofi Annan took money from to let them go there.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was a pretty stupid error for the so called, best trained military in the world. Heh...
Or, crooked soldiers out of control.
Basically, while I can conceive of it being deliberate, I don't really think that that is the most likely reason. They've hit all kinds of crap, civilians, and CRS. Someone just royally screwed up this time, and will probably have something bad happen...
Isn't that the most likely reason?
If you're not convinced:
Ok, so you're assuming that the secretary or Israeli official contacted actually knew how to respond and understood everything. The gears moved and then a decision followed through on to destroy the UN forces.
But why?
International Humiliation
A need to discharge ammunition
To weaken the world veiw of Israels plight
Because they actually precieved a threat
Desire to court marshal someone and possibly fire and official
Um, I don't think so. Really.

First of all everybody knows that Kofi Annan is agains Israel. Second of all one the peacekeepers in an email said that Hizbollah was using the outpost as a shield as not to be targeted by the army. He also said Israel was only attacking near there to eliminate the Hezbollah terrorits. Third of all shouldn't tohse guys ahve been doing some peacekeeping instead of letting a war go on around it. And if they truly did knwo how dangerous their situationw as why didn;'t Kofi get them out of there?

I think your question is, " Why".
It's because the Israelis don't' care and have stretched their credibility with most of the countries that have supported them
. The Bush Conglomerates have wanted a major Mid-East fight for years, as an excuse to step in and gain a military presence and protect their investments . Halliburton has, Kellogg, Root & Brown have made billions. However; I don't think anyone realized the the depth and the strenghth of their adversaries
Few in Israel still speak of being able to neutralise Hezbollah, - instead Israel aims to destroy its infrastructure as much as possible. Regardless of the collateral damage on both sides, the bombing rages. The civilian death toll is tragic,
Israeli government's announcement that it is calling up three divisions of reservists, said to number between 15,000 to 40,000, suggests it is preparing for the possibility of a protracted war.
God help them all.

I'm with you on this one. Interesting how many people that answered you are repeating whatever they hear from Fox News. Next thing you know, you are going to hear that Hezbollah is responsible for global warming, bad reality shows, and the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa..
It is always easier for people to be a mouthpiece for this administration. The real question is, why would the US government allow and encourage Israel, with full knowledge of over 25,000 US Citizens living in Lebanon? This is treason.

What's the point of "unarmed" peacekeepers? The U.N. is run by a bunch of terrorist loving freaks anyway. I feel bad for the individuals killed...but it's their bosses that put them in harm's way. Besides, the U.N.'s idea of keeping the peace is to stop Israel from doing anything while allowing Hezbollah to do whatever it wants. Notice the U.N. never condems what the terrorists do...they only condemn those who fight back. We should kick that corrupt organization out of New York...plenty of space for them in Geneva.

You guys listen to the liberal media reports too much. The fact is they were collateral damage that always happens in a war. Even the USA has friendly fire deaths. If you would investigate further, these UN peace keepers as they are called, has been helping the enemy. Try to explore other means of media in the future.

Suddenly the world cares when they are not Arabs killed. The Israelis don't care who they kill. They are a murderous, terrorist Zionist regime. This is their message to the rest of the world, keep out of our way or die. When are people going to actually accept that Israel is the bad guy here? Yeah, sure, Israel will investigate. Let's see who they will blame this time. Finger pointing idiots.

I don't believe it has been proved that they were intentionally targeted. It is true that their targeting can be very accurate, but it is not perfect. There is an effect known as fog of war. In Desert Storm, many US casualties were from friendly fire. Our troops were not guilty of murdering each other.
