I am assuming you mean "CAUSE" and not "couse" whatever that is.
On 12-21-2012, the rising sun will conjunct the dark area of the Milky Way. This is a once in 26,000 year alignment. To the ancient Maya, this signifying the beginning (NOT THE END) of a new world age, and they accordingly scheduled the 13th Baktun of their Long Count calendar to fall on that date.

Actually the Mayans (who originated this theory) were really big fans of astrology in general. Their (very accurate might I add) calendar might have resulted from careful study of the time it takes for every day, but it takes more than studying a big bright ball to make a bold statement such as when we'll all die.

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the stars too, as well as maybe a few planets aligning, and out-of-context references to Nostradamus predicting that 9/11 would happen.

What? The cause of what? You mean the references that the world will end in 2012?

Read the Bible if you want to know the truth. If you read it from beginning to end, you'll know exactly what the cause of it all is. Guaranteed.
