I think it's partly due to a good question deserving an intelligent answer. As that takes time, some people would rather answer all the ridiculous questions to get points more quickly.

don't want to lend enough time to think of a "good" well thought out answer perhaps. I think a little banter is great. When it comes to random name calling and ranting then, it goes far beyond any intelligible discussion. If people can bring themselves to be flexible to new ideas, or at least open to them...even if they use it as a tool to strengthen their existing viewpoint....that would be wonderful. some people, however, don't want to change and just want to impose their viewpoint upon others...rather than have healthy dialogue. It does help, though, if the questions people have are thought out and worded well, but if they are not...it's also nice when people can take steps to see the meta message ingrained in the question.

That is because the best answers are the hardest to fully answer with... common sense, I guess. I think we do enjoy a little bit of chaos just to see what happens, and asking things over the internet in a way dehumanizes the experience even further.
BTW your avatar guy is cool. Ironic I add that to such a deeo question huh?

I guess it's easier to get two points for answering some stupid thing than thinking and writing carefully an elaborate answer for a clever question. I doesn't make me upset, because sometimes people have stupid questions to ask and really want them to be answered: I think it's worst when there's a hateful question that gets a lot of answers.

Well, human nature being what it is, we do have a penchant for verbal sparring. Some of it, I think, is meant in fun, some is just plain hateful, and some of it seems stupid. I do wish, though, that Yahoo would edit out some of the questions, particularly those that denigrate religious and ethnic groups. I don't know why, but it seems to take all kinds.

Yes, I've noticed. It's provocative to see a stupid question. I've asked questions that I simply removed because I either never got an answer, or the answers I got were uninformed!

I agree with you. I don't like getting upset, but feel I have to contradict what was written. I'm trying not to answer the questions that will give me high blood pressure...but it's hard!

Well, most people on here because they are bored. I look at all the serious questions, if I know the answer to it i'll answer it. If not I look for something trivial or stupid b/c i'm bored.

If you intend to upset people you can get a lot of people on a crusade to defend their POV then you get a lot that represent the opposite POV.
