I am at 94k miles and am going to do my own tuneup. I have been told that newer trucks may not need to be timed. And would like to know if that is true or not.

The ECM ordinarily takes care of that, but do be aware that ECMs can fail - sometimes catastrophically. At 94k miles, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace that module. They're expensive, but having your engine abruptly die in the middle of the freeway doing 80 at rush hour can cost wa*aa*aay more!

No, it does not need to be timed. (If) it has a distributor, it will be initally set at 0 deg TDC, the computer will do the timing curves.

No you wont need to worry about that, the timing is already set and is not adjustable.

ECM takes care of that.
