A little know-how about screensavers would put u on ease.

Firstly SS were created because of the burn in problem i.e when the monitor shows the same display for quite a long time, then the image of that is permanently etched onto the screen and it would take a long time, to go back to the original. But today's monitors r way beyond that. You don't even need a SS on a CRT monitor these days, so the to LCD monitor having SS is obvious.

You don't need to have a SS on a LCD monitor.

LCD screens aren't suppose to suffer from screen burn, but I've seen something that looked just like it. Actually I've had mixed results. Some LCD screens don't seem to suffer from it. I've heard that it's not always permanent when it happends on a LCD screen. CRT screens always need a screen saver because thats always permament.

Here are some statements from manufacturers.
NEC 1850e - User's Manual - Page 13

"Image persistence is when a "ghost" of an image remains on the screen even after the monitor has been turned off or a different image is being displayed. In most instances, the image persistence can be reduced by turning the monitor off for as long as the image was displayed or by displaying the same image in the complementary colors.

Note: As with all personal display devices, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America recommends using a screen saver at regular intervals whenever the screen is idle."

Viewsonic:

"Unlike CRT monitors, image persistence or "Burn-In" is not permanent on your LCD panel. To recover from "Burn-In", leave the panel OFF for an extended time. We recommend the use of a screen saver when the ViewPanel is not in use."

No it doesn't. Screensavers are design to prevent burn-in on older CRT screens. If you have the same image (eg Windows destop) showing on a CRT screen constantly for at least 12 hours, you will get what's called a burn-in, where there is a faint shadow of that desktop image when the screen changes to another scene. Screensavers saves your screen by changing the desktop image all the time hence preventing burn in.

TFT and LCD screens have no such problem so technically you don't need a screensaver. However, TFT and LCD do have a finite life in terms of its backlit light. I read somewhere ages ago that these light decrease in brightness by about 50% after 3 years of constant use. Therefore to preserve your TFT/LCD screen and save the planet and electricity bill, set it to go on standby instead!

No. I have had my LCD monitor for ... 4 years now and it still is working fine. I dont use a screen saver but I do have a setting to where after 20 minutes of idleness it goes into sleep mode (turns black)... which saves energy.

definite. lcd's do not adventure the burn-in effect that CRTs do the position an photo receives burned into the phosphors on the in the demonstrate, yet they could boost their own situation referred to as ghosting. the top effect is analogous, the position you observe the faint ghosted photo over something else the demonstrate is showing. [edit] I might want to communicate about that i do not use a demonstrate saver myself, except on my Slackware deploy. I purely turn off my demonstrate screen if i'd be away for better than 5 or 10 minutes. so that you do not precisely choose a demonstrate saver except you go away your demonstrate screen on. then you fairly do, although if it purely blanks the demonstrate. No it doesn't. But I would defintelly shut it off when it's not in use. At least that's what I do. And screen savers are nothing but RAM eaters. It's just a useless program that is running while waiting for it to run.

I dont think so...screen savers are really just a novelty now. it takes a LONG LONG time with a view of the same screen to burn it in. you usually only find this on older terminal computers that run on DOS.
