Yes, I'm very close to my ex. It took some time. We dated for 4 years, and we did not speak for about a year. She is now my best girl friend, and closest confidant. It just took time to realize that we were not compatible as a couple bet better as friends. My new GF is comfortable too. So she says.

Yes, well it really depends. I have broken up with gals that I cannot have a platonic relationship with cause the conversation keeps heading back to sex. And them wanting to hook up when I go away.
I go on trips about once every 6 weeks out of town for a few days. And my ex-gf wanted to drive down seperate cars to meet up at the hotel. gee wiz. Either you wanna be my gal or not, not both.
Then on the other hand I have a ex-gf from NY we met in College in 1975 and were like brother and sister friends very fast..... Years later we dated on and off for about 3 years, and decided to go back to just friends if we could. We never were as close as we were before the dating.... Now we are drifting slowly apart within emails.
So I guess the best answer is if you were friends before dating, the friendship may survive the breakup or it may not.

That is a very subjective question and is one that a stranger can't answer for you, but generally I think if a woman still has emotional attachment to a man or a man to a woman then they cannot have a platonic relationship.

Speaking for me personally, odds are very low. After you've been that close or closer, it's hard to not want that at least from time to time. It's a struggle to keep the roles in place. We are ex's for a reason ... but we were also lovers for another reason. And if you've had sex with each other, it really gets things kinda convoluted.

One of my first long-term boyfriends is now my best friend (and I'm currently in a 3-years-and-some-change relationship with another guy), so I would definitely say it's possible.
It was a little awkward at first, but we stayed friends and grew really close and have been for years now. Of course, it's always going to vary from person to person and depend on the relationship and how it ended.
(Not a man--but I've got that experience)

No. You're always going to "want it." Reference "When Harry Met Sally," the Billy Crystal character; men have one focus, no matter which woman they are focusing on.

You probably can but why would you? There must have been something that you didn't like about her if you left her and if she left you, hell, pal have a little class! Preserve some of your pride!
