On of the best I've ever played for depth of game play is the Fallout series (Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics). GREAT sence of humor and tons of stuff to discover.

Guild Wars....it has PvP (player vs player)...there is no monthly fee to play....thousnads play....many expansion packs...with still a few to come....overall a great game
