Mac is not slower of crappier. Nor is it faster or better. It's just different. By default, it comes with a one-button mouse. There is an "Apple" key on the keyboard, but is does not work the same way as the "Start" key in Windows (in fact, most of the time it does what Ctrl key does in Windows, even though there is a Ctrl key on the Mac keyboard). Figuring out the differences in window interfaces will be somewhat painful, but you'll probably get over it eventually. ActiveX does not work on Mac (even in Internet Explorer), so you can kiss goodbye to your favorite ActiveX-enabled Web sites.
Many popular Windows programs have Mac versions, but don't count on keyboard shortcuts you use on Windows to work on a Mac. Again, different, but not necessarily better or worse.
On the positive side, OS X is built on top of FreeBSD, so you can do shell scripting and system administration just as you would on any other Unix system. Since it's a Unix-based system, it uses Unix process model rather than threading (something you need to know if you plan to program on it).
Also, some specialty Mac OS X applications (such as Garage Band) are plain awesome and do not have analogs in the Windows world (not for the price, anyway).

Safari is fine, Firefox is fine. There are very few sites that don't work with. And if they don't, they are probably crappy sites to begin with.
The new Macs use Intel dual core. OS X is UNIX. How could it be slower than Windows? To understand "how fast" an OS is you need to know something about how the process manager (schedular) works in an OS. Since I'm pretty sure 99.99% of the people here have never had a class in OS Design, they don't what they are talking about.

I really like my Mac. I don't think Safari is any slower, but controls are way different. I suggest getting Firefox for the Mac, though.

Safari is fine. But I've been using Firefox on the mac and like it better. Sometimes you'll go to a web site that won't except firefox and I'll have to either use Safari or IE. But that's pretty rare.

My wife used to work for Apple, so I bought her an IBook. She uses Safari all the time and on occasion she comes across a web site that just doesn't display right in Safari - so she has me access it with my PC.
For the most part it's good tho. :)
