Same as the first answer. Also wanted to add that in alot of cases your first period is not as intense - usually just some mild cramping, spotting, sometimes back pain, within a week's time - you may also feel emotional and more tired. Your symptoms may seem worse beginning the 2nd and 3rd time around and may also be irregular for awhile - that's normal for some. Ask your Mom or Grandmas, alot of time your period will be very similar to thiers. Always keep pads, tampons, and a pain reliever such as Ibprofin with you so you'll be prepared. Heating pads and stick ons really help with the cramps and back pain as well.

Sometimes having your period can be a pain — literally. Most girls have to deal with PMS, cramps, or headaches around the time of their periods. These problems are usually normal and nothing to worry about. Here are the facts on which period problems are common and normal — and which ones might indicate there's something else going on.

What Is PMS?
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is the term for the physical and emotional symptoms that many girls and women get right before their periods begin each month. If you have PMS, you might experience:

acne
bloating
fatigue
backaches
sore breasts
headaches
constipation
diarrhea
food cravings
depression or feeling blue
irritability
difficulty concentrating
difficulty handling stress
PMS is usually at its worst during the 1 to 2 weeks before a girl's period starts, and it usually disappears when her period begins

Amenorrhea (pronounced: a-meh-nuh-ree-uh) is the absence of periods. Girls who haven't started their periods by the time they are 16 may have primary amenorrhea, usually caused by a hormone imbalance or developmental problem.

Some signs that your period is about to come is:

Discharge- yellowish or white colors that you may see on your underwear.

Underarm hair- hair that grows under your armpits

Area Hair- hair down there

Zits- pimpes that start showing up when you start puberty

Breast Growth- when you start needing to wear a bra and such

Mood Swings- going from mad to happy or happy to mad VERY EASILY!

These are all signs that you are becoming a young women and that your period is going to come soon!!!

cramps don't always mean that your period is coming, they can mean that you ate too much or something. But they can also show up during puberty showing that your period is about to come.

First thing to do. Ask your mom what age she got her period. Did you know that most girls get their periods the same time of year their mom got it. Anyway, when you get your period, you will fell something slippery in you know. If you go to the bathroom, and you see blood, then you know you have ur period. And just a heads up: Use a pad with wings! If you don't, then the pad will scrunch up and you will get blood on the sides of your pantie. And make sure to change ur underwear every time you get blood on it, if you don't, then that's dirty and nasty.

I was kind of old when mine started (14) and if I hadn't started by age 16 I was going to ask the doctor. If you are really concerned about it ask the doc next time you have to go. I noticed some spotting about 6 months before I actually started menstruating.

You get light cramping and sometimes you get a little bit of spotting (a small amt of blood) on your underwear when it's near. When you get that, you know to carry a pad =)
