Congratulations!! You are having a baby and its a beautiful thing!
I am 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. When I found out I was pregnant, I took the test 3 days before I missed my period, I just had a feeling to take a test. I took the same test as you did, first response. The line came out faint but it was there. I didn't believe it so I took another one and the same thing happened again, faint but still there. So I went out and got a whole bunch of different brands, all were faint but there. I called my doctor, explained what had happened and asked if he could test me, he said that I was pregnant and the lines were faint because there wasn't alot of pregnancy hormone in my body yet.

A line is a line is a line. If there's even a faint line there, and it didn't appear after 10 minutes (all responses should be read before the 10 minute time limit) then you are pregnant. I got barely the faintest of lines (I mean, you had to believe it was there to see it, faint) at the beginning of my pregnancy, and I'm now 6 months along. Admittedly, I was so sure I was pregnant that as soon as I could possibly get a positive result, I was testing every 12 hours and that's when it showed up. Every test after that one just kept getting darker, of course. It was still pretty faint the day I would have expected my period.
As for symptoms, I will say that with my first pregnancy I only had PMS and kept thinking that I was getting my period any day. I actually waited to have missed my period by 5 days because I was so sure it was coming soon. I almost threw the stick away with the positive result because I didn't even look at it until it was hovering above the trash. Sometimes you just start off not feeling pregnant at all.
If you're still not sure (thinking it might be an evaporation line or something) then take another test in two days. Your horomones will have doubled by then and the line should be darker.

If you are pregnant, the line will be faint since you are just now reaching your period due date (hormones not high enough yet for a dark line). PMS symptoms are virtually identical to early pregancy so that doesn't help you. You must only look at the test result at the time interval it states though; some may develop lines after they are, um, dried out, and no longer valid. Don't keep checking it for hours and hours if it was clear when you checked at the stated time! Ideally, if you want to be pregnant, don't do drugs and start taking folic acid containing multivitamins today, just in case. There's not much damage you can do over the next few days other than drugs or major physical trauma.

Unless you've had a miscarriage recently and still have pregnancy hormones in your body (which can cause a false positive) a line is a line, no matter how faint. There are plenty of false negatives in pregnancy tests, but positive means positive. :)
I'd suggest trying a different test. If you can swing the extra few bucks, one company (I think it's clear blue easy) makes a digital test. No lines to worry about...it just says "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant."
As for being careful about anything...obviously don't drink or smoke, and start taking a prenatal vitamin and folic acid supplement now.

You could be pregnant. I would wait a few days and test with the Clearblue Digital Test. I got a faint positive with the EPT test a few days after my period was due, and I tested the next day with the digital test. You can get a bonus pack of two tests for around $10 at walmart and target. And use your first morning urine if you can. It is more concentrated, so the test will pick up more of the hcg hormone. And if all else fails, you can ask your doctor for a blood test, which usually comes back positive before urine tests do.

I used the HPT first response as well and the line was faint (It was a week before I was suppose to get my period) all 3 tests that I took and needless to say I now have a 9 month old.
Go to your doctors and have them do a blood test, good luck!

I've had 2 children and both of my tests the lines were very faint. I would say make sure you test w/ you first urine in the morning and try one more time in a few days. Or call your doctor and they will order a blood test. Then you can know for sure. Congratulations

Yes, be careful--no booze, cigarettes, etc, until you know for sure.
It's probably not likely in your case, but your body can produce the HCG that will show a positive reading--BEFORE the pregnancy is fully viable. It's called a "blighted ovum." It's a fertilized egg that doesn't fully implant. It's nature.
If the line doesn't get darker, the levels of hcg may not be increasing, and this may not be a pregnancy. Just not the right time.
Good luck.

I cant tell you for sure, but when I took my pregnancy test my line was faint too. I was definetly preggo. I would make an appointment with a doctor for a blood test. Better to be safe than sorry.

Wait a couple days and retest and do it first thing when you wake up. You could also try the digital ones that say pregnant or not pregnant to get a clear reading.
