We are going to take some students for a holiday weekend at a farm hotel and we need some ideas of group activities that they will interact and practice English as a second language.

How about some fun games, like Twister. Another game that's a lot of fun is an egg toss... have students pair up, then stand just a couple feet away and toss the egg to each other. Then go to the next level and step another foot or so back... continue until the last egg survives! You can also do this with water balloons... less mess!

It sounds like this is meant to be a recreational time with practice so what about having them play "Don't upset the fruit basket". Each person stands in a tight circle (maybe outside). Someone stands in the middle and asks, "Have you ever.....(for example: ridden on a horse). Anyone who has done the action, has to run quickly to find another spot left vacant by another runner. The person in the middle tries to grab an empty spot too. Whoever is left without a spot has to be "it". This would allow everyone to practice speaking and understanding English.

Also, they could each pick a partner and interview that partner (where they are from, likes/dislikes, hobbies, future plans ect.) and then each person could introduced thier partner.

Another idea would be to think of simple objects that come in pairs (peanut butter and jelly; popcorn and a movie; baseball and bat; etc.) Then, write the items on notecards. Tape a card on the back of each player. Players then move about and try to find out what object they are by asking yes or no questions to others players. Once they figure out what they are, they can then work on finding the player that is their match. To make this easier, it could be that instead of pairs of differnt objects you could have it be two of the same thing that have to pair up. For example, (shoe finds shoe, car finds car etct.)

Hope these help! They should be fun and easy!

Resort to some Conflict Resolution skills training manuals. These fun games highlight life and world-conflict skills that all students need to learn. They begin by allowing students to learn the similarities that they have with other students and build into de-escalation of conflict situations. They are fun and educational. Not nearly enough focus on these skills in education!~

it's best to take a class with an instructor as the structures are taught and experiences but you can read about them on the net and learn some great cooperative learning strategies to motivate and engage your students.
