I am 39 weeks pregnant and I am sooooo ready to have this baby. I am worried that I will go over my due date. I heard that having sex can help. Rather it helps labor to come on or just helps the labor its self I have no idea. This is my first baby if that helps. Please give me some hope!!!!

Yes it can help if your cervix is ready. The sperm acts as a prostoglandin (the gel that the doctor uses to induce labour).
Nipple stimulation helps your body produce Oxytocin (also used by doctors to induce labour)
And of course walking helps, lots and lots of it (I went into labour at 39 weeks)
But your body knows when it's ready so you might just have to wait 'til the little one says it's time.

Good luck and congrats!

It's supposed to help. So is walking. So is a host of other things. But I can safely tell you that the baby will come when he or she comes. And don't worry too much about going over your due date. I was over by about 2 weeks, even with walking, sex, nipple stimulation, and some holistic methods (tea and evening primrose oil). I was scheduled to be induced and went into labor 2 hours before my scheduled induction. So, as much as people don't like to hear it, it doesn't always work. I'm sure it helps at least a little, but I haven't found anything yet that will throw any person into labor. Some people do swear by walking up and down stairs, though, which I'm supposed to avoid this pregnancy since I've had contractions, so it might be worth a try.

I read many magazines and even went on the internet to find out whether this was true or not and NONE of the information rings too be true. So far there has been no proof that sex later in pregnancy can cause labor or speed up the labor process.
Here are just some of the website.

If you happen to have your baby before the due date and you were ironically having sex, then that’s because the baby was ready, and has nothing to do with sex. You can’t hurry the process up. My advice is enjoying the pregnancy while you can. I have 2 boys and am pregnant with my 3rd; they do grow up faster than you think.

Well the only hope i can give is it will be here in less then a month. lol. I have been trying the "sex " thing relidiously. I am 38 weeks and feel like i am dying. It brings on contractions for a few hours of pain. Then STOPS... so yes it does help some women contract but doens;t always make them go in labor, just mostly makes them contract. So you can try it....it may work for you...but it is n;t working for me.....I would try to nipple stimulation.... buy a breast pump and hook yourself up..they say 20 minutes on each breast every 3 hours....good luck

I was 2 weeks late with all 3 of mine..and my obgyn recommended orgasms, with or without the sex. It helps some people, others it doesn't. nothing can really help hurry this baby along if the baby isn't ready. But try the orgasms, as many as your comfortable having in a day is fine...either by self or partner, intercourse or not doesn't matter.

If your body is ready to have the baby, sex can definitely bring on labour. It is a safe and fun way hurry your new little family member along. It will not start labour if the time is not right , but the hormones and the motion can both speed up the onset of labour and make labour quicker.

There was an artice a few weeks ago, that cited a new study as saying that having sex late in a pregnanct does nothing to speed up the process. Sorry to be the one to deliver the bad news. Good luck to you.

Walking alot would be the best thing to do-when I had my last one I went out and cut pine trees in the yard(I don't recommend that) Just walk and walk afterthe baby has gotten here and you have time-have sex l!!!!!!!!! Hope you don't have to wait much longer even one day past due date seems like forever-they come when they are ready!!!

if having sex is uncomfortable dont do it the thing that hurries it along is an orgasim cause it makes your uterus contract there are other ways than sex. Do slow quats as with you legs apart like a sumo wrestler(best i can explain it) as far down as you can it pushes the baby down.walking up hill also helps. GOOD LUCK

extremely sex can help melt your cervix...the seman has prosteglandins in it this is a necissary hormone for demanding artwork yet i tried a lot of sex lol and it didnt do a lot help so I wouldnt worry. earnings from the force at the same time as you are able to because it wont be there for lengthy and then to procure 6 lengthy weeks to attend after giving delivery.
