The entire series of Liminy Snicket .. maybe not so challenging, but encouraging - as in it will encourage them to read the entire story. And the books are a little more adult than the movie .. so I think 6th grade is appropriate.

try the Cheer U.S.A. series,they're really good books there's a kind of diary of each character in the book at the begining and like it tells what time everything happened on what day and to which person.

Oliver Twist is good if you have a strong reading level. If your not strong on reading try out The Children of the Lamp.

Bridge to Terabithia....its a pretty short book but a great story about a boy and his bf who happens to be a girl and she ends up dying.

Okay, well, have you read the Pendragon series of books? They're about a teenage boy, and they're really good. :) There are 7 of them so far, and they're by an author named DJ MacHale.
