I think out of all the drugs that are available (legally and illegally), marijuana is the least of concern. If it were legalized it should be regulated and maintained the same as alcohol and tobacco; and help create a tax revenue.
Considering how dangerous alcohol is when too much is consumed, I fail to see how marijuana is any worse. If the right safeguards and standards were placed on it as an industry, I think it could work for both types of uses: medical and personal.

It's not a question of the marijuana. It's a question of the main crop, hemp. Hemp has many more uses than for marijuana. Is is these other uses (better paper than wood pulp, better quality cloth than cotton, rayon, dacron, etc, medicines that help with pain, cancer, digestive problems, etc). These uses would get in the way of the profits for the paper companies, the drug manufacturers and clothing manufacturers like DuPont. So, if you legalize marijuana for any reason, these companies would suffer. Our government would never allow that. They would rather see you die in horrible pain than to affect the bottom line of a major company, and any politician who tries to tell you different is a damned liar

Let's see... the current Prohibition laws concerning drugs have been around for more than 40 years...and we still have people using drugs illegally.
I would say that any policy that has been around for 40+ years and hasn't achieved its desired result should be dumped. Forty years is long enough to see that that policy is not working.
Speaking of Cuba...
