Christians believe that the Scriptures as laid down by the Hebrew patriarchs and recorded in the Old Testament -- and as reiterated largely intact in the New Testament -- constitute the objective and immutable standard by which morality, sexual or otherwise, should be measured. And they believe that sex, other than monogamous, heterosexual sex within the confines of holy matrimony, is immoral and sinful.

What about all the rest of us

Christians also believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and that salvation comes through a process of repentance, or regret and turning away from one's former sins, and consciously giving one's life over to God -- a mystical act made possible by the substitutionary death of Jesus 2,000 years ago

The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, 26but you do not believe because you are not part of my flock. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29My Father, who has given them to me,[a] is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. 30I and the Father are one."

I guess I am not sure what your question is. You do have your facts concerning Christianity correct within a very narrow scope, but I am not sure of your point. What about the rest of us, we should be born again, baring that we should die and get out of their way. If you are not a Christian you are an inferior human being and any ill that come upon you is deserved because you are a sinner. That view by the way is only of the Evangelical/Calvinist/Catholic traditions. There are a few of us who see things differently, but that would require a few thousand words to explain.

Some point in the Gnostic Christian article sited below are a bit off base, but generally it will aid in alternative discussions.

Without trying to start a theological debate or arguing scripture, if you consider the history of this country you should appreciate religious morals.
This country was founded by a bunch of guys risking their lives, committing high treason to establish a nation based upon christian morals. To date, most deviations from those morals have pretty much resulted in disaster. Aids & all other STD's, rape, murder, robbery, assault, child and spousal abuse would pretty much be nonexistant if people adhered to those ridiculous morals. Most of the rights you enjoy are based upon those same morals. So if you stop and think, the morals taught by scripture, not any particular denomination, are a good thing if you consider the alternative.

they ,like alcoholics live in a world of black and white.
read about 12 step programs and you'll understand the problem..
gray is too hard. and some of the teachings in some of the christian churches don't even allow you to question. or you'll go to hell. imagine being fed that?
some churches accept many ideas and include many minorities and gays and the Anglican church (Wasps surprise, surprise) recently ordained a gay bishop. think it was Massachusetts? so despite the crazy fundamentalists things are moving toward peace and acceptance as true christian values would espouse.
remember Hitler was in his mind a christian ridding the world of those without blue eyes. and so you have warped people with no spirituality pretending. to be religious i s about practicing following the mostly man-made rules. to be spiritual is a way of living..
another thing is- as one answer said money and power. and please note they will take money from a homeless person or welfare mother and do at churches and through those TV shows. i tested one and they took and kept food stamps!

remember those right wingers called gays evil for the wild lifestyle when gays tried to get married and demonstrate family values they said oh no... they are not allowed to share our values.
cant hate them as easy if they cant make them different.
and hate is never a family value so looks like right now neither group has that.

What a can of worms you open with this diatribe. First of all, all scripture, Christian or otherwise, are written in two voices. It's up to the reader to recognize that which is the word of God and that which isn't. Even Jesus stated something to the effect that evil is very tricky and will try to disguise itself as holy. If the God you believe in is wise, all knowing, loves all his creations, is tolerant of all opinions, then you should be able to recognize when that God is speaking. Any voice the preaches intolerance, hatred, revenge, killing in my opinion isn't the God I believe in.
Another problem I find in religions, regardless of the sect, is that they drill answers into their young for questions that haven't even risen in the young minds yet. Each of us are born with a unique prospectus. When a subject is studied from different viewpoints more is revealed about it. Each of us should be seeking the spirit in our own way. God isn't dead and still reveals his wonders to his creations. When you study the spirit only in accepted doctrine then your making your self narrow minded.

Because they are ridiculous and the Church was created by a Genius. Look at it this way: Create a dream or revelation out of thin air and wrap around it a bunch of fairy tales with supernatural "good and bad" beings and preach it with enthusiasm. Also instill fear and make sure all your soon-to-be followers will burn forever after they die unless they bow down and worship you. Why?? Tell them because you have a special red phone with God...I am sure many people will follow you. Religion is a great tool for brainwashing people and making tons and tons of money. Of course the really interesting part is why preachers go at lengths about what the disciples "dreamt" about, instead of studying the life of peace, compassion, love, etc... that the HUMAN Christ had. To answer your question, I think many so-to-speak believers don't really believe in what they are saying. That is why they need more and more people to believe in their lies and therefore try and shove their lies down our throats. I think they believe that the more people believe in their lies, the more true their lies become. They think that if 99% of the World believes in God, then He must exist. Really??The majority can be wrong. They certainly don't realize this.

I think you are the one who need to read your history. Because obviously you don't know diddly. The Greeks were certainly not as brutal as you claim they were. Neither were the Persians, Chinese, etc... In every culture and time there has been brutality and peace. Surely you don't believe that we are all much more peaceful and loving than before the advent of Christianity. And how about the INQUISITION AND THE RELIGIOUS CHRISTIAN SPANISH FANATICS THAT WIPED OUT ENTIRE SOUTH AMERICAN CIVILIZATIONS... Moron. Ever heard of those???

Have you heard his words?? It seems to me that many, many, many people who "claim" that he is their lord, shephard, whatever, have no clue about what he said. A man of such peace, compassion, forgiveness; I think he would have mercy for anyone. Simply put, I see him as a wise man or philosopher. If you want to put him on a pedestal and confer to him supernatural powers and worship him because OF YOUR IRRATIONAL FEAR OF HELL, but at the same time ignore the fundamental love he was trying to preach, then you probably aren't following him, are you??? I suppose that Bush is a follower of Christ for you, with all his mantra about war, violence, vengeance and killing??? And if Christ was preaching love for all things, why do you people hate homosexuals??? That runs contrary to what he said....The fact is, most so-called Born-Again Christians and right-wingers probably don't have a CLUE who the Christ really was and what he stood up for...

I don't claim to be a Christian, but being raised in a christian home I do beleive in the bible and Jesus being ressurected. I do think that half if not 75% of people who claim to be christian or hypocrits, and have given the religion a bad name. That is why I don't claim to be one, because I know I don't live like one. I've seen a very very few people who claim to be christians and actually live a sinless christian life and it is because of these people that I beleive in the religion. As for the money, yes there is money to be maid off of this religion and that is just people taking advantage of people. You don't have to spend money to be a christian. Reading the bible and going to church is basically all that it requires.

Can you cite one time when a Christian has imposed their beliefs on you? I am really interested. I think it's more the opposite, religious symbols have been banned from many venues, you seem to feel free to slam Christianity, where have you been damaged? You are perfectly free to believe whatever you choose to believe, just do us the same favor. If you don't believe in the Lord then don't be so offended if we do. Thanks.
