I don't think that being gay is a choice and that it is more of an illness. However, it is not an illness that can be cured or should ever be attempted.

If it's a choice, why would someone make the choice to be outcast from society? Gays aren't accepted anywhere without persicution.

When saying mental disorder, I don't mean in the regular sense of most. I mean it as something that can't be helped or controlled. Like a prgressive gene in your body that doesn't allow you to have feelings for the opposite sex. Bisexuals are similar, but yet different. Does anyone see where I'm coming from?

I don't believe that being gay is a choice either. Labeling it under "mental disease" isn't right either though. But what if when that part of people is forming something doesn't happen. We are complex human beings and so much can and does go wrong. Like when a disease grows before child is born, or when a mentally handicapped person has an extra chromosone, etc. Your correct when you say "it can't be cured or even attempted." I wonder if people who have such judgements against others can be diagnosed as a mental disease or is it a choice. Can they be cured or should we even attempt it. LOL !!!! Minding your own business should be one of the golden rules.

I've talked to a couple of gay people about this, and they said their sexuality is more of a feeling than a choice. But the mapping of human genome has yet to find a gay gene or whatever, and some people change their sexuality as time goes on. I think that it seems like a feeling because the expereinces that paved the way for that type of thinking have been forgotten, leaving only the feeling behing, so the person thinks they were born that way.

If you still consider their mind is the result of a 'mental disorder' --but not in a negative way, then it sounds like they, like you, are in a 'mental order'.
Does someone who dislikes gays actually think the gays hate themselves as well, do they think gays are just as confused about why someone wants to be gay?
No, they get it. Its not a disorder to them. It's doing exactly what they are supposed to do.
Somewhere deep down inside our core being there is something different between a gay man and a straight man. It may be biological, chemical or just mental. But from that point on, many things are different.
School house rock told me to express my mind and it just comes out different.

This is a strange question. I think that it id not an illness or a choice, it is a part of who someone is, things like mental disorders effect the persons life in a negitive way and do not allow them to function in society without medication. I think that it is more like left and right handedness, you are gentically predisposed to it. There are some environmental factors, but it is a part of who someone is and if they try to change it then they have to fight that part of themselves for the rest of their life.

I know a lot of gay men and women and most of them say if they had the choice, they would choose NOT to be gay. I don't think its a choice. Do you choose to be strait? When some people figurout that they are gay, they try to hind it by dating the opposite sex. They try to cover it up and they try to convince themselves that they are not gay. Why would they do all of this if they can simply Choose not to be gay? And I do not think its a disorder or an illness. Its part of who you are.

I don't think it's either. Much research has shown that there is probably a genetic component involved. I believe that it comes about as a result of this genetic component mixed with some sort of intense homoerotic experience during the formative years.

It is a personal choice!
How about bi-sexuals? Do they have a different illness? NO, it is just their personal choice.
