Andrea Yates was found not guilty for killing her 5 children... I feel that she should pay for her crime.. She killed each one ... one by one... waited for her husband to leave when she committed the murders, and told a psychologist that she felt she was such a terrible mother and killed her kids so they would go to heaven... Me personally I feel she is quilty... How many people are given the death sentence for killing spouses, and kids, but aren't diagnosed as "insane" ?? I really want to know how people feel about this issue...

This is yet another example of a legal system that is plagued with inconsistencies. How can society be outraged with an insanity plea for a child-molester and, at the same time, be indifferent to an insanity plea for a multiple child-killer. I think she deserved a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The legal system needs to rethink how to handle these kinds of cases. Insanity pleas should be barred for certain kinds of heinous crimes.

She will be locked up forever. This way she will get some help.
Believe me, she is not being let out in your lifetime.

The problems is that must States dont have Guilty But Insane, where there are sentenced but sent to a mental facility instead of a prison with no treamtmet

I think she should have been put in a padded, windowless room with pictures of her dead children all over the place, covering every inch of the wall, floor, and ceiling surface so she has to see what she did to them every single second she's awake. And the images would haunt her dreams. It's disgusting what she did to those children, and the same goes for anyone else who has ever harmed a child or any innocent person in any way. I would kill someone in a heartbeat if they hurt either of my children. They are everything to me, and there would be no way a normal, moral, ethical, Christian person could ever kill, or even hurt, a child, especially their own children.

I agree that she was insane. I don't like the term "not guilty", she is guilty. But when you're not in control of your mind, it's not really you so I agree that she should be in a mental facility rather than correctional.
That woman was in more pain than any of us could even imagine and her poor children payed the price. Life isn't fair.. Killing or incarcerating a crazy person wouldn't make it more fair.

I think she is insane. She had been in depression for years she even went to a psychiatric hospital and was there for a couple of days. To me she was a bomb about to go off, her family should have kept her in close watch. If you had a relative who had been in and out of depressions would you let her be around her kids??? she tried to commit suicide 2 times!!! C'mon they had all of the signs what were they waiting for??? Also other people who have killed their kids or partner, didn't have a background like her at least i don't know about if they did. Dont think iam defending her at all, iam just saying her family or doctors could have done more for her. They could have kept her in a mental hospital, stop her from having more kids{she went in to another depression after she gave birth to her daughter}. I think she deserves what she got..

I don't think there is any question about it. A person who would kill their children would be insane. I would imagine that she is living h---, having to live everyday, remembering the cute thing each one of them said and did. Then having to relive the fatal day when she lost all reality. Again, I say, it will not matter where Andrea is, nobody can hurt her anymore than she is already hurting..............Move On!
