Depends on what your division does. If they do development, then it would be very difficult to get into the group b/c jobs in development are few and in general hard to secure. If they go out and find space for your company to expand into, then I would suggest taking a job first with a real estate broker such as CB Richard Ellis, or Cushman Wakefield as a broker or tenant representative.

you have to become a real estate agent. you will have to get your license and go to real estate school. depending on where you are located, the school can vary from a couple weeks to months. Don't be suprised if you find it hard to get 'hired' on for commerical real estate. that is probably all real estate agents dream. Depending on the area, the comission in 10%, just think of what 10% on two or three multi-million dolllar units can do!

Also, starting networking with the zoning commission folks and learn about the development in the area. My favorite game is SimCity 4, because I always wanted to get into commerical. I'm going back in the fall to get my license again (can't transfer to this state)

It all depends on what you want to do in your new position. Commercial real estate is an entire business and includes a variety of jobs and positions. Start with finding out what type of position you want to fill in your company's division. Do you want to be on the purchasing, leasing or marketing side? Purchasing requires training in commercial finance, leasing typically requires real estate sales experience and marketing is self explanatory.

What exactly do you want to do? If you want to be a commercial real estate broker, you have to pass state exams and get a license. Other than that, no special education is necessary; you can learn everything on the job.

I'm not really sure but I'd assume you need some sort of communications training, because in sales it's important to know how to talk to people. Carpentry probably isn't probably necessary but might give you a leg up on the competition.
I would suggest talking to someone who already works in real estate and ask them what they did to get the job.
