I recently answered a question that reminded me of the breaking up of Blink 182. When they broke up there were seriously people at my high school crying because of it. Personally I felt that there was something very creepy about it.
I understand that people form connections with and through music but being that attatched to it just seems too crazy for me.

Yes, then people won't act so stupid over them anymore

Well being that you mentioned high school kids there is your answer right there. When you are younger things seem so much more magnified. In five years those same kids would not likely be that upset over a band breaking up. I have had a few of my favorite bands break up on me. I have been disappointed but not really sad enough to cry about it. Im usually like oh man no more of their records. But bands break-up and reform so much anyways. Its just the way it is. I like so many bands that its not a huge deal. Something that might surprise and/ or shock you for like a day and then you are like oh well and you are over it! You will always have memories like going to concerts etc. People grow up and move on. Its life.

Yes, if the band did not completely agree on most things, it is probably best that you aren't together anymore. There will always be another band coming out that makes people feel something through their music.
Suggest to your classmates to try listening to independent, local, or underground music, you'd be surprised how great some of those bands can be! But if they're getting really attached to music and can't fully dedicate their life to it, suggest that they find a hobby that keeps their minds and hands busy, like working on cars for the guys, or maybe crafts or baking/cooking for the ladies.
Just remember, one gender needn't limit themselves to activities of their societal stereotype. I'm female, most certainly, and am fascinated by cars and someday hope to restore a classic to its former glory with my own two hands, preferably one of those boxy, mobster looking cars from the 1930s or 1940s, the ones that were usually painted black or burgundy, love those cars!!!

Could you say that this would be some what the same reason blame music for some dramtic violence? No, why cause its all personal choice. These people crying chose to have this deep emotional connection with 3 band members they will never meet. Very strange if you ask me. When TOOL went on a break, for me it was like damn that sucks. Emotional detached....

It is verrrrrry creepy that people flip out over a band breaking up. I cried over a band once and that was when Kurt Cobain blew his brains out.
People should be happy because it's usually a unanimous decision by the band and they're much happier after wards. Would you really want your favorite band staying together for sake of staying together even though their hearts weren't in it. The music would suffer.

The connection is not just with the music it is with the people in the band as well.
Familiarity breeds n when a band breaks up people get more sentimentally attached than they are supposed to as they look up to them and their music together as a band. This usually happens during stages of emotional immaturity ......especially teens.but they all grow out of it.

there are some bands that it'd be alright for

u know for a fact that if FOB broke up, there'd be people crying everywhere

i mean, who cares if they break up
im not gonna shed a tear for them

i guess it all depends on ur favorite bands and how much u like music

Yes! I think it's okay to be disappointed, but certainly not worth tears!

Besides, many band members go solo or join another group after they break up with one band.
